About This Role

As Head of EHS, Solothurn you will support the management of all EHS aspects of Solothurn Operations to ensuring compliance with all legal and other requirements, identification and mitigation of EHS risks, and management and mitigation of our environmental footprint. The Solothurn site is a large scale biologics manufacturing operation with significant physical, chemical and ergonomics risks associated with everyday operations. The individual ls responsible for assessing and mitigating risk at the site to minimize lost time due to injuries, Illness or business interruptions related to EHS compliance. In addition, the Associate Director, EHS&s will implement relevant sustainability focused programs and look for opportunities to Improve the site's environmental l footprint, when possible.

What You’ll Do

1. Oversees the compiling, updating, and analyzing of EHS programs and data to ensure proper compliance with government regulations and to provide for a safe and healthful workplace, community and environment.

2. Partners with site Leadership to review and interpret current and future environmental demands in connection with business requirements and pending legislation. Recommends necessary programs to ensure appropriate and timely action based on this information.

3. Provides leadership and supervision of EHS personnel at both sites. Teams with Sr. and Site Management to establish site EHS professional performance goals and reviews performance against those goals.

4. Defines both short and long term EHS goals and objectives. Successfully teams with site management, manufacturing, engineering, and human resources to achieve defined objectives.

5. Forecasts and plans department/business group requirements for EHS expenses, capital and personnel. Reviews all capital appropriation request and engineering, manufacturing or temporary change orders for EHS concerns.

6. Coordinates plant and departmental efforts in planning for potential emergency situations that could adversely affect employees, facilities, production, the community and the environment.

Who You Are

You have environment, health and safety experience leading a site, where you are responsible for managing all aspects of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) to ensure compliance, risk mitigation, and environmental sustainability. Your experience and knowledge involves leading EHS programs, collaborating with site leadership, setting EHS goals, managing budgets, and preparing for emergency situations, with a focus on reducing injury, illness, and business interruptions at our large-scale biologics manufacturing facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, life sciences, environmental management, environmental engineering or other similar field required. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Professional certification in engineering or EHS related discipline highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of environment, health and safety experience, preferably in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or other health care industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of drug development process with particular emphasis on large scale biologics manufacturing and associated support functions, highly desirable.
  • Strategic planner and influencer, creative thinker and problem solver, innovator, visionary leader, resilient, passion for EHS, driven, entrepreneurial, cultural acuity, business acumen, charming relationship builder.
  • Experience in crafting EHS programs aimed at influencing individuals throughout all levels of a major manufacturing site (Plant Manager through individual contributors).
  • Experience dealing with complex and sensitive issues related to manufacturing of biologics in Switzerland
  • Experience coaching, developing and managing a staff of professional employees.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills focused on collaboration, innovation, inclusion and communication.
  • Skilled presented and speaker in executive settings.
