Engineering designs our next-generation hydrogen electric engines. Working across Hydrogen, Propulsion and Integration divisions, they solve technical problems and help decarbonize aviation by finding solutions for electric propulsion, hydrogen storage, fuel cell technology, power distribution, thermal management and more.

Role Overview

The Electric Propulsion System (EPS) Test Engineer will support all developmental and formal test efforts through EPS design, certification, and implementation

Responsibilities

  • Author and revise engine and component laboratory, ground, and flight test plans, cases and procedures and compliance documentation in coordination with design and integration engineers.
  • Develop and implement procedures for successful execution of tests utilizing high voltage power and coolant flow.
  • Review test data and provide assessments on the performance of test stand equipment and articles under test.
  • Work as a focal for engine and hardware test to support the team’s development and execution of a successful certification approach.
  • Interface with test, certification, and design teams to ensure engine configuration and test procedures meet the necessary requirements.
  • Proactively identify and communicate any test and hardware related issues to respond quickly to engine test learnings to continuously improve test stand capabilities, operational efficiency and test stand safety.
  • Communicate project status, risks, issues, and opportunities to team and program leadership.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects while working independently or with a team, and proactively problem solve.
  • Strong knowledge of engine test stands, automation, and high voltage, high power system test.
  • Experience in aviation test engineering involving system requirements and their validation & verification.
  • Integrated test stand design and implementation for engines or power systems, including data acquisition and analysis.
  • Proficiency in specifying test procedures and methodologies for aircraft propulsion systems.
  • Familiarity with aircraft ground and flight demonstration tests.
  • Excellent documentation skills with a focus on standardized methods of test documentation.
  • Knowledge of Software certification to DO178C and/or hardware certification to DO254.
  • Experience conducting environmental testing in accordance with DO-160G.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as good written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent level of spoken and written English (additional languages a plus).
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a small team.
  • Provide technical mentorship and direction to less experienced engineering colleagues.
  • Able to travel internationally on occasion
  • B.S. Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a similar field.
  • M.S. Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a similar field.
  • 3 to 6 years of progressive test experience with propulsion/ engine systems
  • Detailed understanding of aviation and/or propulsion systems and engine components such as fluid pumps, electric motors, and power electronics.
  • Experience integrating test articles and systems for test.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems and configuring engine test stands.
  • Familiarity with aircraft propulsion development test under applicable regulations (e.g. FAA Part 33 or EASA CS-E).

Benefits

The wage scale or salary range for this position is between $115,000 - $130,000. In addition to the foregoing base compensation, additional compensation and benefits are available to employees and eligible family members (as applicable) including the following:

πŸ€’ Long-Term Disability: If your disability extends beyond 180 days, LTD Coverage for up to 60% of your earnings.

πŸ–οΈ Paid Time Off: Eligible employees may accrue up to 120 hours per year (15 days) and may borrow up to 40 hours (5 days).

🩺 Sick Time: Eligible employees may accrue up to 40 hours, per year (5 days)

πŸ–οΈ Paid Holidays: 12 observed holidays, per calendar year.

πŸ›©οΈ The Fly Club: up to $2,000 of reimbursement towards flying lessons to all full-time staff
