Research Software Engineer

We are hiring a Research Software Engineer to join our Cambridge-based Quantum Software team. As a member of our Quantum Software R&D team, you will focus on developing novel quantum programming languages and compilers. You will have the freedom to think independently and creatively within the team, making a real impact. Your work will be motivated by the requirements of application-focused research groups, and your contributions will be integrated into our full stack, which includes the H-series quantum hardware and TKET compiler.

Responsibilities:

• Develop high-quality software in various programming languages.
• Contribute to our quantum programming projects, and other packages within our quantum software ecosystem.
• Conduct original research in quantum computing, with a focus on quantum programming languages and compilers.
• Stay informed about the latest research in the area, and share key ideas with colleagues.

Key Requirements:

• Have experience of more than one programming language.
• Be willing to learn new programming languages.
• Be an independent worker capable of understanding technical and advanced research material and transferring new ideas into code.
• Be able to understand competing design requirements, and contribute to solutions.
• Hold a Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.

Desirable Skills:

• Interest and experience in designing programming languages.
• Experience programming in Python.
• Experience with a compiled, typed, or functional programming languages such as Haskell, OCaml, Rust, or C++.
• Knowledge of quantum circuit design and programming, with tools such as TKET or Qiskit.
• Published work in quantum computing, programming languages or compilers.
• Experience writing code in a team, along with associated processes such as version control, code review and CI/CD.
