Job Description

Ares is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Associate to join the Financial Planning & Analysis team in Los Angeles as part of the firm’s larger Finance organization focused on supporting our Corporate and Real Estate groups. The new Senior Associate will work closely with more senior members in the FP&A team in providing day-to-day support with respect to business budgeting, forecasting and internal reporting, primarily in support of Ares Commercial Real Estate (NYSE: ACRE).

Primary functions & responsibilities

The Senior Associate will work closely with the FP&A team in partnering across our enterprise with Fund Accounting, divisional Real Estate CFOs, senior investment professionals, senior Finance leadership, information technology resources and programmers.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Financial modelling of the firm’s public mortgage REIT as well as private debt funds
  • Collaborate with acquisitions team, portfolio management, legal, capital markets, and accounting to model fund level projections and returns
  • Prepare regular financial reporting and strategy presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including boards of directors, advisory boards and investors
  • Conduct strategic analysis for platform growth as requested by senior management
  • Support the implementation of new systems and processes, including data collection, testing, analysis, presentation and supporting the roll out

Qualifications

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required with an emphasis in Accounting & Finance. Master’s in Accounting, MBA or other advanced degree considered a plus.
  • CPA preferred.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 5-7+ years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, Public Accounting, Corporate Finance or a related field with an understanding of Real Estate fund structures, investment property structures, and alternative investments.
  • Strong understanding of Accounting principles and public company financial statements (income statements & balance sheets).
  • Must have strong analytical and financial modeling skills. Proficient in advanced Excel functions and conditional formulas. Proficient with all MS office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ideally has experience with data management (Power BI and Anaplan preferred).

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and driven with ability to multitask and to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to analyze and summarize complex information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Technically proficient with all MS Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative with strong sense of ownership.

Reporting Relationships

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$120,000 - $140,000
