Director of Legal

Egis is looking for a seasoned Director of Legal for the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) region. This senior leadership role is crucial in managing and overseeing the Legal, Ethics, and Compliance team across ANZ. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of local regulations, legal principles, and market dynamics, along with a proven track record in managing legal teams and liaising effectively with external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of senior legal counsels across ANZ, providing expert legal, ethics, and compliance advice on contracts, litigation, compliance, insurance, and employment law.
• Work closely with the Corporate Secretary/E&C Manager to ensure corporate governance and maintain high ethical standards.
• Report to the General Counsel of ASIA-ANZ, with a dotted line to the ANZ CEO or Business Performance Director.
• Provide strategic, solutions-focused legal advice to support business operations and ensure regulatory compliance across the region.
• Oversee and manage disputes, litigation, and claims, coordinating with external counsel and the central Insurance and Litigation teams.
• Drive the implementation and enhancement of the Ethics & Compliance program, including training and advising teams on compliance matters.
• Ensure effective corporate governance, including entity management, regulatory compliance, and licensing.
• Play an active role in mergers and acquisitions, supporting the central Legal M&A team.
• Represent the legal team in regional meetings, contributing to the development and implementation of Group Legal processes and best practices.

Requirements

• Degree in Law or a related qualification
• Extensive experience in the Legal function, ideally in the engineering or industrial sectors.
• Strong expertise in Australian and New Zealand commercial, corporate, and regulatory law.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management skills with a collaborative approach.
• Proactive, solutions-driven mindset with high integrity and professionalism.
• Excellent negotiation skills and experience working in diverse, multicultural environments.
