This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will as a part of a small, multi-functional team, you’ll help you’ll help design, build, and commission Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) for our Lunar Lander program, Blue Moon - https://www.blueorigin.com/blue-moon. In a fast-paced, dynamic environment, you will develop hardware that supports vehicle integration, test, and launch operations to ensure a safe and successful mission.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Build Spacecraft EGSE Systems, Design Circuits, and Compose Interconnection Designs
  • Lead the architecture, design, and fabrication of cost-effective test equipment solutions using a mixture of custom and vendor hardware. Equipment includes a wide mix of data acquisition, command, control, and protection systems.
  • Collaborate with Test, Systems and Flight Hardware Design Engineers developing features, functionality, and safety requirements for EGSE. Insure EGSE meets these requirements and delivery schedules.
  • Engage with EGSE Software development Engineers to integrate control, data acquisition and archival hardware with the Lunar’s Integrated Ground System (IGS) spacecraft testing software.
  • Develop, document and author EGSE System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Requirements Cross Verification Matrix, Bill of Materials (BOMs)
  • Create schematics, specifications, and Statements of Work for hardware and design services procurement from internal and external vendors.
  • Compose Test Plans, Test Procedures, and conduct EGSE verification tests and commissioning.
  • Support and/or author Design Review presentation material & documentation including but not limited to; presentation slides, High Level and Detailed System Design Documents (SDD’s), System Requirements Review (SRR), Interconnection Control Documents (ICD’s), Commissioning/Activation Plans, Risk Identification and Mitigation, Cost and Schedule.
  • Coach, mentor, and technically assist other stakeholders and team members.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of related technical hands-on experience in complex, electrical systems & circuit design, documentation, and fabrication.
  • Experience with common data acquisition systems and hardware, controls engineering, and their integration with sensors.
  • Knowledge of the theory of operation of sensors for various measurement applications (pressure, temperature, displacement, force, acceleration, etc.)
  • Analog, discrete, mixed signal circuit design or sensor signal conditioning experience.
  • Experience authoring documentation for and performing Design Reviews to internal and external end users and customers.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, function generators, network & spectrum analyzers, RF Power Meter, etc.)
  • Travel – Facilitating EGSE design, fabrication and delivery will require occasional, short-term travel to vendors and other Blue Origin locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 12+ years of hands-on experience in complex, electrical systems & circuit design, documentation, and fabrication.
  • Experience with spacecraft, aircraft, or launch vehicle integration and test systems.
  • Experience designing circuit card assemblies, test cable harnesses, and Electrical/Mechanical packaging.
  • Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) & Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) noise reduction, shielding, and analog filtering experience.
  • Complex hardware and software system troubleshooting including cause, and corrective action closure.
  • Sub-contract and supplier management experience, including requests for proposal, specification development, and writing statements of work.
  • Schematic capture and layout of multi-layer Printed Circuit Boards (PCB’s)s utilizing CAD applications such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, Zuken.
  • Design and or utilization of serial communication interfaces such as RS-232/422/485 protocols.
  • Working knowledge of languages such as LabVIEW, C/C++, Python, Rockwell Automation Studio 5000
  • Experience utilizing one or more of the following CAD Applications and product data Management (PDM) Management Systems; AutoCAD, Autodesk, Creo, SOLIDWORKS, Windchill, DOORS, VISIO
  • Experience developing electrical test hardware to any of the following standards and specifications:
  • IPC-A-600F, IPC-A-610G, IPC-WHMA-A-620D, IPC-A-630, IPC J-STD-001G, SAE AS39029D
