Engineering Manager

At SMG Automotive, we are on a journey to simplify our products and strengthen our technology stack through a large-scale rewrite. We’re building on a modern web stack with Next.js/React, following best practices and striving to build/measure/learn at a high cadence. Here’s your chance to join a lovely frontend team that collaborates with designers, product managers, researchers, QA and engineers from other fields.

What you will be doing

• Lead, mentor and empower a group of 3-5 Frontend Engineers, providing guidance, and support to help individuals grow in autonomy and contribute to the team's success.
• Communicate expectations clearly, solicit and deliver individual feedback frequently. Manage professional and personal growth through performance reviews and growth plans.
• Foster a safe culture of feedback, continuous improvement, and collaboration, encouraging team members to share their ideas and concerns openly.
• Collaborate with product, business, customer service, sales to understand and influence the product roadmap to achieve our strategic goals.
• Ensure that processes and ceremonies align with company expectations to deliver the best results.
• In your remaining time, identify bottlenecks in the process and roadblocks to success and help clearing them. Review and write code as an Individual Contributor to maintain core engineering skills.

Requirements

• Strong background in software development, with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of Frontend software architecture, Typescript/React, testing and monitoring.
• A growth mindset and a passion for helping individuals and teams reach their full potential.
• Experience in effectively leading, motivating and growing engineers through regular 1-1s and structured processes.
• High level of autonomy and still accepting help and feedback from team members and peers.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and evolving team collaboration over time.
• Accustomed to clearly identifying the problem to be solved and articulating it, before jumping to possible solutions/actions.
• Fluent in English for both written and spoken communication

• Fluency in Typescript and React.
• Experience with React component libraries (we base on Chakra UI)
• Worked with Next.js before
