Quantitative Interpretation (QI) of seismic encompasses Geophysics, Petrophysics, Geology and Reservoir Engineering disciplines. Activities include rock physics, velocity modeling, well-to-seismic interpretation, acoustic rock and fluid properties analysis, reservoir property modeling, amplitude and AVO assessment, volume interpretation, seismic inversion, and integration with other geophysical techniques such as EM and disciplines such as pore-pressure prediction and geomechanics.

The QI team performs exploration, appraisal and development related reservoir and fluid prediction services for many International clients.

About the role

The Senior Geophysicist will be responsible for ensuring that QI projects are carried out using Ikon Science's advanced well-tie and seismic inversion technology to a high standard to fully meet the clients' subsurface objectives across multiple different geological basins.

Additionally, the remit will mentor and provide technical geophysics direction for the Reservoir/QI team in Europe Africa Middle East (EAME).

Requirement

  • Work with Business Development Manager’s, the Customer Success Team, and the VP Services to talk to clients, write and deliver customer project proposals
  • Establish internal project plans, geophysical workflows and Quality Control (QC) prior to QI inversion project commencement in conjunction with VP Services.
  • Integrate geophysical data with geological and petrophysical information to build comprehensive subsurface models.
  • Technical direction during seismic inversion projects as required.
  • Perform high quality Rock Physics analysis, Seismic Analysis, Seismic Data Conditioning, Seismic Inversion, and Reservoir Characterisation.
  • Delivery of high-quality presentations and reports to clients.
  • Final QC of EAME project work (including review by VP Services).
  • Working in a team to complete projects to client requirement and to highest technical standard.
  • Influence on Software development and strategy pertaining to performance of the QI team.
  • Stay current with advancements in geophysical technology and methodologies and apply new techniques to improve exploration and production outcomes.
  • Participate in peer reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of geophysical workflows and best practices.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deliver specialist QI projects for clients.
  • Lead seismic geophysics activities within the EAME team.
  • Coaching and mentoring of junior members in EAME QI team to develop high level geophysical analysis and inversion skills.
  • Deliver Ikon Science training as needed.
  • Actively promote and sell Ikon services and software.

Experience

  • 10+ years oil industry experience in relevant basins.
  • Extensive experience as an analytical geophysicist.
  • Extensive knowledge of fundamental geophysics (acquisition, processing/imaging, geophysical signal processing, inverse theory) as applied to oil exploration, appraisal/development and production employing 2D, 3D and 4D seismic data.
  • Proficiency in geophysical software such as Petrel, Kingdom, or similar platforms.

Qualifications

  • MSc / PhD in one of the following disciplines: Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Physics, Mathematics.

Technical Competencies

  • Geophysical AVO analysis including extended elastic impedance
  • Seismic inversion using multiple different algorithms and reservoir characterization.
  • Delivery of high-quality inversion and reservoir characterisation results to clients across multiple different geological basins.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of regional geology, petrophysics, well log interpretation, rock physics and basic reservoir engineering concepts
  • Knowledge of Ikon Science software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
