Job: Integration Test Engineer

Location: Munich, Germany (Working On-site)

Duration: 18 Months (Conversion to permanent possible)

For this position you will need to have full rights to work in Germany

Join the Lab Test and Experimental team, responsible for component, system, and whole aircraft testing. The team is divided into three key areas: Testing, Test Management, and Test Operations. Your role focuses on Integration Test Beds, where you will conduct Hardware in the Loop (HIL) simulation of aircraft systems and subsystems, driving both open and closed loop tests.

You will report directly to the Engineering Manager of Integration & Environmental Tests and play a vital role in certifying, developing, and researching within technology areas such as Propulsion Systems, Energy Storage, Structures, Environmental Tests, and HIL. Collaboration is key as you work closely with top experts across disciplines like avionics, autonomous flight, propulsion, and energy.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Assess and refine test requests alongside the design team.
  • Collaborate with test experts from departments like Propulsion Testing, Energy Testing, and Flight Testing.
  • Determine instrumentation requirements aligned with aircraft, system, and sub-system specifications.
  • Design and develop custom test equipment for data acquisition, measurement, and failure injection, including creating procedures and documentation.
  • Evaluate test concepts using first-principle reasoning and an understanding of physical effects.
  • Develop complex test rigs and coordinate support teams (software, CAD, technicians, and electricians), while managing key suppliers.
  • Take ownership of E-Motor Test Benches and critical Powertrain Distribution Units on key Integration Test Benches.
  • Oversee critical aspects of the system verification cycle.
  • Execute tests using automated tools and measurement equipment for verification and validation activities.
  • Evaluate test reports and results, creating Failure Analysis Reports/defect reporting when necessary.
  • Report and discuss findings with the system development team.
  • Handle ad-hoc tasks or projects as directed by management.

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics, Aerospace, Mechatronics Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant testing experience.
  • Familiarity with multi-kW electrical machines and drives is advantageous.
  • Experience in HV System Integration Labs is desirable.
  • Understanding of standards like ARINC 661, ARINC 653, ARINC 664 is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in test rig instrumentation, test execution, and data processing.
  • Knowledge of electrical and communication architectures.
  • Understanding of network protocols (CAN, ARINC, RS422/485, UART, Ethernet).
  • Solid knowledge of mechatronics, including sensors, actuators, and controller systems.
  • High level of self-reliance and ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Target-oriented, analytical problem-solving approach.
  • Fluent in English (C1 level); German or additional languages are a plus.
