POSITION OVERVIEW

The Junior Accountant will support the Finance department under the guidance of the Controller with month-end close, annual audits, financial analyses and communication with numerous external and internal stakeholders. This position is responsible for receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices, as well as making payments in an efficient and timely manner.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of financial reports, statements and records.

  • Manage workflow to ensure timely payments of vendor invoices and expense vouchers.

  • Issue checks, get approvals, and distribute payments weekly.

  • Prepare and issue annual 1099 forms and ensure compliance with IRS regulations and deadlines.

  • Participate in year-end financial audit and assist with the audit process.

  • Perform monthly reconciliations of assigned AP and general ledger accounts.

  • Deposit, record, and post all receivables from grants, donations, membership dues, etc.

  • Support CFO, Controller, and Senior Accountant with special projects, analyses, and workflow process improvements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDE:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Must have knowledge of, and comply with, GAAP for non-profit organizations and general accounting procedures and policies.
  • 2-3 years relevant experience within a non-profit environment preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and experience in Sage Not for Profit Accounting software (formerly MIP)
  • Experience working with varied funding streams including city and state grants, program grants, restricted and unrestricted fund sources etc.
  • Excellent communication, people skills and ability to develop effective partnerships across teams.
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts and processes effectively to non-financial managers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highest levels of integrity and accountability.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

  • Salary range: $ 65,000 minimum to $ 75,000 maximum, commensurate with experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

As part of building a culture where employs can do their best work, FPWA currently employs a hybrid model. Employees are in-office twice per week and senior leadership is in-office three times per week. We observe a company-wide remote day on Fridays.

Work performed by this role is expected to happen in or near New York, NY given FPWA's work policies and practices. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. In accordance with NYC Mayoral Executive Orders and mandates, FPWA requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
