Head of Communications

We’re looking for a Head of Communications to join our award winning team in Middlesbrough (UK), home to the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline and countryside.

Reporting to our COO, you’ll lead our communications strategy, both internally and externally across the UK and Kuala Lumpur. This role will also encompass the leadership of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, ensuring our company’s values and commitments are effectively communicated and upheld. If you have a passion for gaming, a strategic mindset and a proven track record in corporate communications and exposure to CSR leadership, we’d love to hear from you.

This role requires a hands-on approach, stepping in to perform tasks directly when necessary and supporting teams where needed.

As a global gaming company, we've enabled millions to conquer Minecraft Dungeons, battle in Rust Console Edition and create new adventures in Fallout 76.

Recently, we collaborated with Rockstar Games to bring Red Dead Redemption to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 as well as partnered with Obsidian Entertainment on Grounded: Fully Yoked Edition for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and 5.

What you’ll be doing

Communications Strategy:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that enhances the company’s brand and reputation in the gaming industry
• Oversee all external communications including press releases, media relations, social media and content marketing
• Serve as the primary spokesperson for the company, managing media inquiries and public appearances
• Internal Communications:
• Lead internal communications to ensure alignment and engagement among all 450 employees across the UK and Kuala Lumpur
• Create and implement communication plans that keep employees informed and motivated
• Develop and manage internal communication channels, including newsletters, intranet and any company wide comms events

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):

• Develop and lead the company’s CSR strategy, ensuring alignment with company values and stakeholder expectations
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate CSR initiatives into business operations
• Communicate the company’s CSR activities and achievements both internally and externally

Hands-On Leadership:

• Step in to perform communications tasks directly when there are gaps in the team or during high-demand periods
• Provide hands-on support for critical projects and initiatives, ensuring high-quality output and timely delivery
• Mentor and train team members, fostering a culture of learning and development

Leadership and Management:

• Manage the communications team, providing guidance, support and professional development opportunities
• Work closely with senior leadership to align communication strategies with business goals
• Monitor and analyse communication metrics to assess effectiveness and make data-driven improvements

What we’re looking for

• Significant experience in corporate communications, public relations or a related field
• Demonstrated people management experience
• Proven experience in developing and executing successful communication strategies
• Strong understanding of the gaming industry or similar creative industry and its unique communication challenges preferred
• Demonstrated experience in CSR strategy development and implementation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership
• Proficiency in communication tools and platforms
• Willingness and ability to be hands-on and step in to perform tasks directly when necessary

Qualifications

A masters degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field preferred
