Video Pipeline Developer

Root Systems is seeking a talented video pipeline developer to join our team and help build out our video processing and streaming capabilities. You will be responsible for designing and implementing a robust pipeline that can handle large ProRes files, automatically quality check them, transcode them (if you can handle our complex ffmpeg workflows) and package the output into HLS and DASH formats for streaming.

Responsibilities:

• Architect and develop a scalable video processing pipeline
• Implement complex ffmpeg transcoding workflows to convert ProRes files into web-friendly, yet high-quality, cinematic formats
• Optimize video processing for high performance and efficient resource utilization
• Ensure the streaming pipeline is reliable and can handle large volumes of video content
• Help develop a content management system and streaming infrastructure
• Investigate and troubleshoot video quality and playback issues
• Stay up-to-date with the latest video coding technologies and streaming protocols

Required Skills:

• Strong proficiency in Python and shell scripting for video pipeline automation
• Deep understanding of video codecs, containers, and formats (e.g., ProRes, AVC, HEVC, HLS, DASH)
• Extensive experience with ffmpeg and its complex filtering and transcoding capabilities
• Knowledge of video processing best practices and optimization techniques, including the handling of HDR content and lossless audio
• Experience with large-scale data processing and storage systems
• Understanding of streaming protocols and technologies (e.g., HLS, DASH, CDNs)
• Ability to debug and troubleshoot complex video processing issues
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Good communication and collaboration abilities
• Experience with version control systems like Git
• Familiarity with DevOps principles and the ability to set up and manage your own test environments independently
• Passion for cinema is a great plus.
