Understatement is the next level D2C brand boosting female confidence and disrupting an antiquated market by creating underwear that feel as good as they look. For all women. The opportunity:

Understatement grew from 0,5 to over 7 million EUR revenue in just 3 years. And we are not planning to change this growth. Applying a proper aCoS means you’ll be responsible for a few million EUR online spend making it - by far - the biggest part of our budget - huge responsibility and lots of fun. In simple words: you’ll be responsible for our entire paid online marketing, everything from META, GADS, YT, you name it.

This role - as in general at Understatement - has a lot of freedom. Feel free to work from a cabin and hit the outdoors on powder days or soak in the sun at a pristine beach when darkness hits Sweden - we believe in people living their best life and not having the feeling that their work hinders them from fulfilling their dreams. This role is not 100% remote and we consider spending IRL time with our colleagues being utmost crucial, effective and fun when building a team and company but we don’t see why you shouldn’t do what you need to be happy as long as you take your responsibility and get your sh.t done. :-)

Your approach:

The first thing you do when you wake and the last before you fall asleep is to check sales performance - not because you have too, but because it motivates you and you are way too curious to not look at the numbers. This doesn’t mean you check all systems 24/7 but in a way that you’re always on top of what’s happening. And if you’re super smart you’ll have built dashboards that pling you in case things move too far off the planned track.

You’re allergic to phrases like “it’s brand building but of course we can’t measure it”; your approach rather is “whatever we do is building brand so let’s focus on sales but do it in a brand-credible way”.

“This year we entered 3 new markets” sounds like bogus to you as your approach is not to limit yourself to start advertising in a market only once an old-school GTM plus localisation was done but rather test quickly and act on the results. Getting a 0,5% CR in South Korea without any localisation? “Hell, that’s a massive opportunity given zero localisation” is the expected answer to exemplify your approach.

Key for you to understand that this role is one with action from day one where we hand over the keys to our online marketing to you. Don’t apply if you want to learn from us as we expect you to be better than us. You will definitely learn here but you will do it from your own mistakes. For the own who dares this should be super exciting (we would apply ourselves if we were as good as we expect you to be tbh).

You LOVE numbers and you are a entrepreneur at heart:

We want you to spend, spend a lot. Because spending more means you know how to do this efficiently. Don’t ask “what’s the budget?” but “what aCoS/ROAS you want me to scale at?” - or even better “I need 5 mEUR ‘cause I discovered this massive opportunity. And I would rather need it yesterday than next week”.

We don’t have a set spend budget but a brand and products that are that popular that we - in theory - could spend indefinitely (kinda ;-)). This means you don’t see barriers but only possibilities. We’re expecting you to come up with “bigger bets”, innovative approaches you are eager to test as you might create a step change in volume or efficiency.

Advertisers are flocking to TikTok atm and the questions you are asking yourself are “where in our funnel do we see TT“ and “how the ha.. can we attribute TT spend”?

You’re interested not only in online marketing but marketing, consumer brands, retail and e-commerce in general. The phenomenon of Superbowl ads is known to you, you spent quite some time thinking about digitally native vertical brands opening physical brand stores and might already have had your own business.

Unit economics sounds like music in your ears as you’re well aware that top line growth ain’t worth anything if there’s no underlying profitability.

You LOVE creativity

When you think about design you don’t think about artistic expression but how an ad should be designed so it fulfils its purpose of attracting new customers or maintaining existing ones.

Creativity is your other key strength. You’re not “requesting assets only” from our in-house creative team but come up with clear briefings and concepts of what you think will work. Testing new creatives is a constant and having a few hundred different ads out at any given time is the normal. We are not expecting you to have worked as an art director before but putting together a simple ad in Canva or similar tool isn’t something you’d shy away from.

Your team: you

You will run online marketing on your own meaning there are no juniors or assistants or anyone else on your team. We don’t believe that we need many resources to tackle online marketing but only a smart and driven person. Our approach is “done is better than perfect” and “one person will get 95% done, let’s not optimise the last 5% at triple the cost of the first 95%”.

This doesn’t mean you should be a lonely wolf but the opposite, a team player as you’ll work tight with all other colleagues at Understatement, especially our creative team and those who run the organic part of our social channels. Also we have a boutique external agency working with us on ads management.

You’ll report to our Co-CEO(s) who share your love of numbers and growth :-)

The package

We don’t pay top of the market (yeah you heard right - but are aiming to do so over time) though expect this not to be an issue for you as short time incentive is not your highest motivator but the challenging role and joining a purposeful brand itself.

This role is quintessential for our business and we want you to only feel that you are part of the company but that you actually are the company. Therefore you will get an option program that most probably will make you also financially very, very happy in the long term.

We get it that you might not tick all the boxes but that you’ve the drive and spirit to nail that job!
