AECOM is actively seeking a Civil Engineer/Contract Administrator to join our growing Western Canada remediation and reclamation team. You’ll have the opportunity to work on various multi-disciplinary and high-profile environmental and civil projects. The immediate opportunity will likely focus on supporting federal clients and ongoing northern remediation projects, such as Rayrock Mine, Faro Mine, and Giant Mine Remediation delivering consulting design and remedial contractor oversight services.

The right candidate can work locally from our Calgary AB, Burnaby BC, or Yellowknife NWT office. AECOM can provide hybrid work options to give the flexibility you need to do your best work. This is a Full-time position.

Work will vary pending the applicants experience and career aspirations. The role at AECOM will be a combination of civil design and contract administration for major projects and involve the oversight and delivery of technical work in a consultancy environment.

This position is ideally suited to a senior to intermediate engineer with a strong interest in contract administration. This position will work with project and program managers on large multi-disciplinary engineering projects in the following focus areas - mine reclamation; civil works; and remediation implementation.

This will be a fast-paced role working with industry leaders. The right candidate will need to be able to multi-task, prioritize, and deliver for a large program and multiple colleagues effectively.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Provide support to senior staff on multi-disciplinary projects to coordinate project deliverables.
  • Develop technical solutions as part of a design team, assist senior staff with the design and delivery of engineering work from options assessment to detailed design phases.
  • Coordinate with drafting (CADD) teams to develop engineering drawing packages.
  • Prepare documentation for design projects: technical letters, memorandums, reports, drawing packages, specifications, contract documents, construction packages, and cost estimates
  • Manage contract administration including:
    • Development of response to contractor Requests for Information (RFIs)
    • Evaluations and responses to contractor Contemplate Change Orders (CCNs) and Change Orders (Cos)
    • Review and evaluate contractor Payment Applications.
  • Lead meetings and take minutes.
  • Complex collaboration and coordination of multi-disciplinary engineering and scientific teams across AECOM, contractors, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Prepare, coordinate and participate in field programs and construction supervision.
  • Proposal development and scope change composition.
  • Scope and budget tracking.
  • Work with and support to compose regulatory documents.
  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design
  • elements for engineering works.
  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position

Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline; Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental etc.
  • 4+ years of related experience within civil and/or environmental engineering field and contract administration.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Canada (or eligible for licensing)
  • 10+ years of technical experience with exposure to some of the following fields:
    • Consulting experience as a engineer/scientist or project manager.
    • Exposure to northern remediation design projects, environmental assessment, environmental engineering, civil engineering, remedial option assessment, implementation, system operation and maintenance.
    • Contract Administration.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Highly developed oral and written communication.
    • Strong time management and organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; work within multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues; a patient team member who is excited to engage a diverse team and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues of all levels of experience.
    • A high level of initiative and enthusiasm for getting things done.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite; excellent knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Willing to travel to Canada’s northern territories for short periods.
