Position Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Development and Legal Officer, the Director, Global Sustainability (ESG: Environment Social Governance) is responsible for developing and implementing the company’s global sustainability strategies in alignment with the company’s business strategy, understanding and connecting corporate and customer sustainability and carbon reduction objectives, and ensuring compliance with ESG reporting requirements applicable to our global business.

This role involves leading a small team and leveraging cross functional and cross regional resources to maintain a global reporting framework as well as understanding and coordinating activities to achieve our sustainability goals and provide coordination and direction on sustainability initiatives, including internally and with our customers. The Director, Global Sustainability may act as a company spokesperson on sustainability, engaging with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and industry groups.

For this position, the expected salary range is between $170,000 - $190,000 annually. This range reflects our commitment to providing competitive compensation that aligns with industry standards and your qualifications.

Job Description:

  • Develop and implement an overall global sustainability strategy that addresses compliance and governance, addresses the company’s own sustainability and carbon reduction objectives, and supports the business in responding to the sustainability objectives of our customers. This includes developing and implementing sustainability policies, plans and procedures and developing and implementing sustainability communication plans.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on sustainability trends, regulations, and legislation applicable in the jurisdictions where we do business, ensuring the company remains ahead of compliance requirements.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the development and execution of sustainability initiatives, working through indirect reporting lines to influence change and drive sustainability objectives.
  • Partner with legal, internal audit, and operational teams to ensure sustainability practices are integrated into corporate policies, procedures and activities.
  • Provide oversight to sustainability audits and assessments across global operations to identify areas for improvement and ensure alignment with international standards.
  • Develop and maintain a sustainability reporting framework that meets global standards and stakeholder expectations.
  • Oversee and collaborate on sustainability training and awareness programs to embed a culture of sustainability within the organization.
  • Act as a key spokesperson and representative of the company on sustainability issues, engaging with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, and industry groups.
  • Engage with commercial leaders in the company to gather insights and feedback on customer sustainability expectations and incorporate this feedback into the company’s sustainability initiatives.
  • Work closely with customer performance team to ensure that our products and services meet the sustainability needs of our customers. Drive innovation in sustainability that serves as a differentiator in the marketplace and adds value to the customer experience.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to a small team of sustainability professionals.
  • Engage cross functional teams to produce solutions and recommendations based on the strategic sustainability plan, government regulations and government funding.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, business, or a related field. Equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Knowledge of ESG regulatory requirements and trends nationally and globally. Experience with sustainability reporting frameworks such as GRI, CDP and SASB.
  • Ideally 10+ years of experience in a relevant industry/business experience in a sustainability role or related field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex organization and with cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated business-related career progression.
  • Strong project management skills, with proven ability to plan, organize and lead.
  • Highly motivated employee who can work independently, think strategically, and deliver on a plan.
  • Persuasive communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to present to senior leadership internally and externally.
  • Strong attention to detail, strong financial acumen and excellent analytical skills.
