The opportunity
The Financial Controller is responsible for conducting highly complex financial, accounting, and economic analyses, including journal entry reviews, detailed calculations, and internal and external reporting. This role also involves preparing and presenting recommendations to senior managers. The individual in this role must collaborate with financial colleagues, as well as business and IT professionals across the finance and accounting areas, to analyze and document business processes and implement solutions that meet the needs of stakeholders.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Review of Financial Results
- Responsible for reviewing accounting activities such as journal entries, reconciliations of complex general ledger accounts, and state filings, footnotes, and financial statement pages
- Responsible for analyzing financial results and reviewing analysis prepared by others
- Responsible for synthesizing analysis to tell a narrative story to senior financial manager
- Reviews work performed by staff accountants and provides feedback
- Shows an advanced degree of proficiency with reporting and analysis tools
- Anticipates needs for accounting and reporting enhancements
- Promotes a culture of change management and encourages process improvement
- Manages and maintains relationships with critical stakeholders outside of formal authority
- Mentors and provides guidance to accounting staff
- Shares best practices with other team members and makes recommendations for process improvements
- Leads other team members on various projects and analyses

What we are looking for
- Bachelorβs degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
- Must be a Certified Public Accountant
- MBA, CFA preferred
- Ten (10) or more years of work experience in a financial services. Experience in an insurance industry is an advantage.
- Possesses advanced ability to draft managerial reporting narratives.
- Demonstrates advanced proficiency in own discipline; is recognized as an expert within and outside the organization
- Contributes to the development of functional strategy
- Influences industry best practices through participation in industry associations and conferences, research, and pioneering.
- Detail-oriented, well-organized, and excellent analytical skills
- Demonstrates ability to lead complex cross BU or cross divisional processes or projects and effectively work through others.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of accounting rules, regulatory rules and/or business processes as it pertains to the accountant's sphere of responsibility (e.g., a set of regulatory filings or account reconciliations)
