In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. Strategy, Portfolio & Operations (SPO) is a newly built function that aims to encompass several business partner functions for pRED including strategy & portfolio, program & project management excellence, clinical operations, sites and laboratory management, capability development and external operations. SPO is set up leveraging a hub and spoke design with a clear mandate for core capabilities that are mirrored by the respective spokes in disease therapeutic areas and functions across pRED. SPO’s mission is to deliver excellence in operations, ensure patient centricity and enable high-quality decision-making. As a trusted partner across pRED, SPO contributes to pRED’s research and development excellence.

The Opportunity

As a Data Scientist in Clinical Operations, you act as a strategic thought partner to key stakeholders. You are the champion in organizational analytics learning and ensure expertise continues to flourish and develop towards future business needs. You are responsible for creating and implementing analytics and insights for different customers in the Clinical Operations group and partnering closely with business leaders and end users to understand needs, build or leverage existing capabilities and develop study decision support solutions.

  • You have a comprehensive understanding of the clinical operational data we work with and foster learning with colleagues using analytical tools and applications.
  • Together with partners in business and IT, you jointly design, implement, and maintain efficient analytics tools and solutions for data-driven study decision support (SDS) in agile teams.
  • You demonstrate a customer-centric mindset and proactively seek to further improve our CO SDS landscape by contributing to projects and SDS solution development.
  • Act as subject matter expert for applicable advanced analytical methodologies , programs and projects.
  • Collaborate within cross-functional teams to develop solutions, gain alignment and deliver impactful business insights; engage necessary stakeholders to enable better decision -making.
  • Increase the sophistication and application of advanced analytics methods (including predictive modeling, machine learning, and scalable prototypes) to measure study performance and guide portfolio-level decisions efficiently and at the speed of business
  • Create and manage tools with up-to-date industry information to build accurate short-and long-term forecasts
  • You act as a thought partner and advisor to all relevant teams and stakeholders; identify evidence needs and recommend and support implementing data solutions; e.g. jointly with IT partners.
  • You apply analytical and statistical methods to answer a variety of business questions using multiple data sources and technical tools.
  • You regularly assess and adjust priorities based on stakeholder feedback, organizational needs, and strategic relevance.
  • You demonstrate strategic agility and the ability to engage stakeholders to understand and diagnose CO problems and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • You acquire, aggregate and/or curate data and information to address business needs.
  • You lead high-quality analyses and design effective ways of presenting and delivering the results to maximize impact and interpretability.

Who you are

  • You have 5+ years of work experience with a Bachelor's or 3+ years with a Master's, preferably within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry (commercial or clinical) and/or management consulting.
  • You are talented, passionate, and inspired by our mission, fitting well with our collaborative, patient-centric, and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • You have a growth mindset, are excited about learning through experience, and thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous, and highly collaborative environments.
  • You bring strong technical skills, including knowledge of data manipulation and analysis programming languages (R, Python), database systems (SQL and no-SQL), and data visualization tools (Tableau, Shiny, or Streamlit).
  • You have deep expertise in at least one of the following areas: Patient Insights, Investigator Insights, Forecasting, Competitive Intelligence, Data Analytics, Advanced Data Analytics, Resourcing, Information Visualization, and/or Data Science.
  • You are experienced in acting as a strategic thought partner to teams, using sophisticated techniques and tools to discover deeper insights, make predictions, or generate recommendations, and have an entrepreneurial mindset to transform the way we use data and analytics to enable decisions and hasten our delivery of medicines for our patients.

The position can be based in Basel (Switzerland), Little Falls (US), or Welwyn (UK).
