Position Overview

The Sr. Data Architect for Dutch Bros IT Data Management and Engineering organization plays a critical role in enabling data-driven decision-making within our organization, ensuring that our data infrastructure is robust, flexible, and aligned with our strategic goals. The person in this role is instrumental in partnering with our Business Intelligence leaders and team to transform raw data into actionable insights that drive business growth and innovation. The Sr. Data Architect leads efforts in shaping the technology backbone of our data ecosystem. They are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the architecture that enables us to collect, store, process, and analyze vast amounts of data efficiently and effectively.

Key Result Areas (KRAs)

Assess, design, build, and maintain the architecture that enables Dutch Bros teams to collect, store, process, and analyze vast amounts of data efficiently and effectively:

  • Lead the design of Dutch Bros data architecture, taking into account stakeholder teams’ current and future data needs, as well as industry best practices. Create blueprints for databases, data warehouses, data lakes, and other data storage solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
  • Develop and maintain data models that define how data is organized, structured, and related within our systems. Translating business requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data models that guide database design and development efforts.
  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies in the data management space, assessing suitability for our organization's needs. Make recommendations on which tools, platforms, and frameworks to adopt, considering factors such as functionality, cost, and interoperability.
  • Oversee the implementation of data architecture solutions, working closely with database administrators, software engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that systems are deployed according to specifications.
  • Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, security, and privacy of our data assets. This involves defining data standards, implementing access controls, and monitoring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Lead cross-functional IT and stakeholder team efforts to continuously improve and

mature Dutch Bros Data Management and Engineering capabilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, data scientists, and IT professionals, to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior members of the IT team, guiding them in best practices and methodologies for data architecture and management.
  • Continuously assess and optimize our data architecture to improve performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. This may involve identifying bottlenecks, tuning databases, or redesigning systems to better meet evolving business needs.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in IT, with at least 7 years specifically focused on data architecture and management.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing complex data solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Extensive experience with database technologies, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with data integration, ETL processes, and data governance principles.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and their data services.
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Snowflake, Spark, and NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and best practices for ensuring compliance.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or mentorship role, providing guidance and direction to junior team members.
  • Proficiency in SQL and one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java) for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and techniques for presenting complex data in a user-friendly manner.
  • Ability to work with both structured and unstructured data formats and implement solutions for real-time data processing.
  • Experience with data quality assessment and remediation techniques to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data assets.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools for automating data pipelines and deployments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues in data architecture and infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with a focus on driving insights from data to support business objectives.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and lead initiatives through influence and persuasion.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies in a rapidly evolving data landscape.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while ensuring high-quality deliverables within established timelines.
  • Experience with both waterfall and Agile/iterative IT delivery methodologies preferred.
  • Food and Beverage prior experience preferred.

Compensation:

$135,469.91 - DOE
