Summary of the Job:

The Senior Engineer for DB2 and IMS on z/OS provides technical leadership, software support and database system guidance in support of the mainframe operating system environment. This role maintains and evolves the current and future state business capabilities with the focus on growth, efficiency, and predictability. You will design, migrate, and engineer DB2 and IMS solutions in line with customer and FNTS strategies and initiatives. You will work collaboratively across FNTS to ensure an agile, cohesive delivery model. DBA skills in both DB2 and IMS are desired in addition to Systems level experience.

This position is a remote/work from home role. This position is not available for sponsorship due to current FNTS customer contracts.

This position is a salary position with eligibility for the FNTS 10% yearly bonus/incentive plan.

About This Role:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive management of all mainframe database systems and infrastructure including DB2 and IMS performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Perform mainframe database software upgrades coupled with administration and tuning in support of our customer's DB2 and IMS environments.
  • Implement assigned system software to include new releases, corrective fixes, vendor maintenance and customization.
  • Work with vendors and customers to achieve timely implementation and/or resolution of database initiatives.
  • Builds plan to integrate software changes to maintain the highest level of availability coordinating with Operations and the Change Management groups.
  • Perform research into new functions available from latest software identifying opportunities to improve our environment.
  • Responsible for day-to-day database maintenance, creating backups, performing restores, monitoring file extent growth, creating and maintaining DR procedures and overall support of customer needs and requests.
  • Perform various database optimizations including performance and efficiency analysis of the database configuration and periodic review of database performance.
  • Develop standard work and process documentation to enable Network Operations Center to monitor and perform routine tasks.
  • Provide on call and support for reported problems.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work under short deadlines and high-pressure situations.
  • Fulfill customer request for mainframe z/OS customers in a timely manner as they pertain to DB2 and IMS.
  • Provide key support for customer migration services as they pertain to DB2, IMS and related OEM software products.
  • Assist the project manager in the migration of newly acquired customers.
  • In joint cooperation with the Disaster Recovery Services, successfully execute tasks associated with any given customer's disaster recovery plans.

The Ideal Candidate for This Role:

Required Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in DB2 and IMS for administration and systems programming support.
  • Documented Systems Programming experience supporting spar configurations, buffer pool tuning, applying maintenance through SMP/E, and have successfully migrated DB2 subsystems to a higher Version in a Data Sharing environment.
  • Understand how DB2, CICS, IMS and z/OS interact, and how DB2 supports a WebSphere application environment.
  • Knowledge of z/OS Connect and other Query products
  • Knowledge of TLS 1.2 and use of Secured Ports in DB2 is needed.
  • Demonstrate outstanding problem determination and resolution skills working independently from any vendor as needed.
  • CA and IBM tools for DB2, IMS and other third-party vendor products a plus.
  • Extensive experience with the following:
    • Reviewing new versions of DB2 and IMS for functionality and client impact.
    • Evaluating change requests and determine impact to assigned clients.
    • Supporting DB2 and IMS security requests.
    • Review DB2 and IMS security to find potential risks.
    • Vendor consultation for problems and questions.
    • Space calculations for new objects and environments.
    • Reviewing, tuning of internal DB2 buffer pools and SQL code.
    • Troubleshooting and solving production database issues.
    • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively to support requests from multiple clients
  • DB2 DBA Skills desired
    • Day to day database changes for applications (tablespaces, tables, columns, indexes).
    • Maintenance of databases (reorgs, runstats, imagecopies, etc)
    • Performance tuning (indexing SQL tuning)
    • Backup and recovery planning and when required
  • IMS DBA Skills desired:
    • Day to Day changes for applications: PSBs DBDs ACBs, Modifying record segments
    • Database maintenance (Loading, Backups)
    • Performance Tuning (Indexing, Adjusting the HDAM randomizer, DB reorgs, Pointer checkers)
    • Operations (IMS Commands)
    • Adjusting the HDAM randomizer, DB reorgs, Pointer checkers.
    • Awareness of segment pointer structure in CI/CA

Preferred Skills:

  • System programming knowledge of multiple DBMS
  • System programming knowledge of DB2 for z/VM
  • Experience integrating DB2 and IMS with distributed DBMS
  • Knowledge of Informatica and the Power Exchange listener
  • Supporting multiple customers for after hours on-call.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentations.)

Compensation:

Compensation range (base pay): $86,340.00-$142,460.00

Final compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.
