We are seeking a skilled and motivated Infrastructure Engineer to join our IT team. This fully remote position offers the flexibility to work from home, with occasional visits to our data centers in Newport, therefore it is a requirement for the successful candidate to have access to a vehicle and be within approximately 45-mile radius of Newport. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, in-depth knowledge of networking, virtualization, and a proactive approach to maintaining and improving our IT infrastructure.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will be part of a small but dynamic team of two engineers responsible for the general IT health of the business. Your role will involve ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of our IT systems, providing technical support, and implementing infrastructure solutions that align with the business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Management:
    • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot the company's IT infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, and virtualization platforms.
    • Ensure high availability, reliability, and security of all IT systems and services.
  • Networking:
    • Design, implement, and manage network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs.
    • Troubleshoot network issues and optimize network performance.
  • Virtualization:
    • Manage and maintain virtual environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
    • Deploy, configure, and monitor virtual machines, ensuring optimal performance and resource utilization.
  • Data Center Visits:
    • Conduct regular visits to local data centers (within 45 miles) for hands-on support, maintenance, and upgrades.
    • Ensure data center environments are secure, well-organized, and compliant with company standards.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the IT Manager and other team members to plan, implement, and support IT projects.
    • Collaborate with other departments to understand and address their IT needs.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate documentation of the infrastructure, including network diagrams, configurations, and incident reports.
    • Provide regular updates and reports on infrastructure health, incidents, and project progress.
  • Security & Compliance:
    • Implement and enforce security policies and procedures to protect company data and IT assets.
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest security trends and technologies, ensuring the infrastructure is protected against potential threats.

Qualifications:

  • Experience & Technical Skills:
    • Proven experience as an Infrastructure Engineer or similar role.
    • Strong knowledge of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, and routing.
    • Proficiency in managing and maintaining virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
    • Experience with Windows and Linux server environments.
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
    • Hands-on experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing issues.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for occasional travel to data centers within 45 miles of Newport.
    • Flexibility to occasionally work outside of regular business hours for maintenance and emergency support.
