Job Description

As an Network Engineer with OMES you will enjoy:

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot network architecture in multiple cloud environments including public clouds such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform as well as private clouds such as VMWare NSX and VMC on AWS for multiple customers, projects, accounts, and tenants.
  • Configure end-to-end connectivity including intracloud, intercloud, and on-premises connectivity for all cloud environments utilizing all available cloud artifacts and constructs to support scalable cloud applications in a multi-region deployment architecture.
  • Implement cloud networking best practices to optimize performance, security, and cost-efficiency while ensuring reliability and availability of services as well as disaster recovery capability.
  • Utilize and incorporate automation, Infrastructure as Code, and source version control methods and best practices in the deployment and management of network infrastructure.
  • Document all network designs, configurations, standards, processes, and procedures for internal use amongst colleagues and for compliance purposes.
  • Implement network security controls such as firewalls, security groups and policies, access control lists, and encryption in transit to protect data and resources.
  • Serve as an advanced technical resource or SME for IT team members through leadership, mentorship, and development in the understanding and adoption of various cloud technologies as well as the understanding of core networking concepts and principles.
  • Assume a lead role in assigned projects providing expertise and support to project managers as well as other project team members to ensure successful and timely execution of projects.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position works in a comfortable office setting with a computer for a large percentage of the workday.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually milk. Occasional travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related Information Technology field.
  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 2 years focused on public cloud environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Deep understanding of fundamental networking concepts including but not limited to IPv4, MPLS, VPLS, TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, OSPF, VPN, VLANs, network segmentation, and IP subnetting.
  • Understanding of various web services and applications on both server and serverless architectures.
  • Demonstrated skills with command-line scripting languages and programming such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, Perl, etc.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with expertise in advanced network principles and Internet architecture.
  • Understanding of abstract requirements to determine, design, and implement an architectural solution.
  • Ability to capture, read, understand, and explain packet captures utilizing tools such as tcpdump and protocol analyzers such as Wireshark.
  • Skilled in common office applications such as Microsoft Visio, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communications skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle dynamic workloads.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:

  • Proven experience with multiple cloud networking services in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, VMWare NSX, and VMC on AWS.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Advanced Networking, Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer, Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer, CCNP, JCIS-ENT).
  • Experience working with traditional routers and network switches such as Cisco and Juniper networks.
  • Expertise with application delivery controllers and reverse proxies and web application firewalls such as Application Load Balancers, Elastic Load Balancers, Application Gateways, FrontDoor, BIG-IP F5 LTM, AVI, nginx, etc.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) languages and tools like Terraform, OpenTofu, CloudFormation, or Ansible, Spacelift, Terraform Enterprise, or Aria Automation.
  • Experience in use of basic data structures such as stacks, arrays, and lists and data formats such as YAML, XML, and JSON.
  • Experience with source code repositories such as GitHub, Gitlab, and Git and their associated procedures and processes of source code revision.
