Job Summary: The Automation Engineer is responsible for maintaining and optimizing PLC control systems within the organization. This role involves diagnosing and resolving system errors, providing technical support, and collaborating with the Controls Development team to enhance and customize software solutions. The engineer will ensure that all systems operate smoothly, meeting customer requirements and maintaining high reliability. The role requires a strong understanding of PLC programming, communication protocols, and a commitment to supporting system performance across multiple regions.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of the Customer Support team, providing support for PLC control software solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve system errors, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
  • Collaborate with the Controls Development team to enhance, customize, and provide innovative solutions to existing systems.
  • Ensure the reliability and performance of software solutions by analyzing detailed design specifications, interface documentation, and system flows to meet customer requirements.
  • Update and maintain functional design specifications, interface control documents, and test specifications to reflect current system configurations and customer needs.
  • Foster strong working relationships with peers and colleagues across different regions to ensure seamless integration and support.
  • Conduct in-house testing, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), remote support, and on-site testing and commissioning in collaboration with the Controls Development team.
  • Provide on-call support for emergency situations and be available for short-term overseas assignments as needed.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in the automation industry, with a focus on control systems. Experience with airport or logistics PLC control systems is a strong advantage.
  • Proficiency in Siemens S7 Classic programming, Siemens TIA Portal, Distributed Safety, and HMI development.
  • Basic knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Familiarity with SCL programming is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of high-level communication protocols, with strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of Profibus, Profinet, and AS-I bus systems is beneficial.
  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • A committed team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to be on-call for emergencies and open to short-term international assignments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on diagnosing and resolving complex system errors.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles related to industrial control systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
