About The Role:

Right at the core of Gen, our main responsibility is to support malware analysts, security researchers, and other experts at ThreatLab. Our systems ingest and store millions of malware samples per day, provide access to varied large datasets, and prepare hundreds of updates for users of the Avast Antivirus and AVG Antivirus per hour.

The systems that we maintain, all brands, new and well-established, are critical and must run with very little downtime and delays. Any outage has a direct impact on our users. Tools and libraries that we provide are used by our colleagues from other teams every day.

We own a large number of different applications, (micro)services, and tools. That’s why automation is important for us. We rely heavily on templating, source-control tools, automated tests, CI/CD pipelines, and anything else that will make our job easier. DX (Developer eXperience) is always on our mind and we try to not only help ourselves, but spread the knowledge across the whole company (for example, our team founded the company-wide Python Guild where we share what we learned).

DevOps is our way ― there is nobody else to maintain our services for us. We own everything we create. We know everything about our applications thanks to extensive monitoring and logging. Automated alerts help us resolve incidents quickly during on-call duty and also prevent the same problems from arising in the future. We hold ourselves to high standards in our work ― we like clean, documented, tested code. Every change goes through Code Review. That said, we expect everyone to contribute (both features and reviews) almost from day one.

About The Team:

We are the “ThreatLab Platform” ― a small but close team, all based in Czech Republic but international (English is our main language).

We like to learn new things and experiment. We use a diverse set of technologies (while still being focused on maintainability): Docker, Windows Containers, Kubernetes, Postgres, Cassandra, RabbitMQ, Kafka, and more. Our services are running in many locations in on-prem and in Google cloud too. Most of our code is written in Python (with static typing by Mypy).

What You’ll Need To Be Successful In This Role:

• Great knowledge and experience with Python 3 and its debugging and performance optimisation
• Strong understanding of best practices, clean code, and scalable solutions
• Experience with SQL
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, and Docker
• Fluent communication (spoken and written) in English language
• Experience with GCP is an advantage
