Junior Backend Engineer

About the Role

Verisk Maplecroft are looking for a Junior Python/Django developer who is passionate about delivering high quality software solutions and embraces the challenges presented by the ever-changing landscape of web development. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working primarily on our client facing web application (GRiD) and will be involved in all areas of the software development life cycle.

As a developer in the Technology Team, you will be learning from experienced developers and be empowered to contribute technical and user-focused improvements to our products and solutions.

About the Day to Day Responsibilities of the Role

• Working in an agile team and assisting in requirements gathering, refinement, and delivery of user-focused improvements
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with team members on technical projects
• Deliver high-quality, maintainable well-tested code that meets user requirements
• Work collaboratively with other Developers, Project Owners, UX, designers, and QA engineers to deliver high-quality solutions

Requirements

Required

• A proven track record of developing in Python

• Awareness of Django and the Django Rest Framework

• Familiarity with building web applications, common design patterns and underlying architectures

• Familiarity with Agile software development practices

• Some knowledge in REST APIs, both in authoring and consuming

• Good level of experience in SQL and database interaction

• Knowledge and awareness of how to apply Web Security best practices

• Good understanding of git and working collaboratively on team-level code base

• An understanding of frontend web technologies and how web browsers behave and perform.

Useful to have

• Knowledge of cloud technologies and platforms such as AWS
• Experience using docker or other container orchestration technologies.
• Experience of the Linux command line and basic Linux server administration skills
