Senior Electrical Engineer

Location: Sydney, Australia. This role provides a combination of office and remote work with manager approval. While not frequent, candidates must be willing to travel to the San Mateo office in the United States as needed.

The Role

GoPro Australia is seeking a top-tier Senior Electrical Engineer to join a team working to ensure that our world-class products continue to outpace the competition. You’ll work with our highly professional, experienced design team and will focus on developing innovative hardware solutions for our next-generation products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in circuit development for consumer electronics.

What You Will Do

• Circuit Design and Development: Design and develop electronic circuits, ensuring high performance, reliability, and safety for various consumer electronics products. This includes creating detailed circuit schematics and PCB layouts.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary electronics design team to develop new product. This may involve working on:
  • Complex RGB LED and OLED Systems: Design and integrate sophisticated display systems, ensuring clear and reliable visual output.
  • Human Interface Components: Develop and optimize components that enhance user interaction and control.
  • Power Distribution: Design efficient power distribution systems to ensure stable and reliable operation of all electronic components.
  • Battery Management: Implement advanced battery management solutions to maximize performance and safety.
  • Bluetooth Development: Develop and integrate Bluetooth functionality, ensuring robust and reliable wireless communication.
• RF Knowledge: Apply knowledge of RF principles to design and troubleshoot circuits, ensuring optimal performance of wireless components.
• PCB Layout Skills: Utilize strong PCB layout skills to design and implement circuit boards, including routing and component placement.
• Compliance and Standards: Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations, particularly focusing on safety and durability.
• Innovation and Problem-Solving: Solve complex engineering challenges, innovate in circuit design, and improve overall product performance and reliability.

Skills We’re Excited About

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) required, Master’s degree (MS) preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in electronics design, preferably for consumer products.
• Technical Skills:
  • Experience with Bluetooth products.
  • Experience with battery-powered products is desirable.
  • Ability to design, bring up, and transition products to production, providing ongoing support.
  • Strong PCB layout skills, including efficient routing and component placement.
  • Ability to quickly turn around prototypes to validate designs.
  • Basic firmware writing skills to support own designs.
  • Experience working with semiconductor manufacturers to select, design-in, and validate complex components.
• Soft Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to condense and describe investigations and results concisely and accurately.
  • Adaptable to collaborate in all aspects of a project.
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
• Additional Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth technology and RF principles.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking.
