Will be in charge of the implementation, support, and maintenance of automation systems in the plant, including manufacturing and process, utilities, and/or facilities areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Functional and technical expertise: comprehensive business and technical knowledge/experience to improve products, processes, and services.
  • Influence: Serve as key resource within a business area or discipline and gains support for ideas or positions on difficult issues.
  • Project and financial management: lead medium-scale projects or programs with moderate risks and resource/financial requirements. May manage budgets for medium-size projects or programs.
  • Customer/external focus: Establishes key relationships outside of business area and identifies internal/external customer requirements and develops solutions to meet customers’ needs.

Instrumentation - Apply measurement and final control devices for unit operations.
• Manage/troubleshoot instrumentation assets through the life cycle.
• Ensure the correct instrumentation is selected (size, technology).

Process Control - Apply algorithms to measurement and control devices to reduce process variability and improve performance.
• Understand (and participate in the development) of the Process Control Strategy and the RPM strategy.
• Monitor and analyze process performance.
• Educate the Process team members in control system and IT tools.
• Understand the HSE aspects of the process.
• Understand the maintenance strategy for the process equipment.

Automation - Integrate automation solutions for successful operation of manufacturing processes.
• Understand and provide oversight of the code/recipes.
• Provide oversight and/or lead major implementations/upgrades (equipment, software, & hardware).
• Own the technology lifecycle roadmap.
• Work with vendors, peers, and industry groups to identify trends and new technologies.
• Understand (or own) the CSV strategy and deliverables; may perform the role of system custodian for automation systems.
• Understand the C&Q Strategy and support the execution.
• Own the strategy and execution of automation systems PMs.
• Have basic understanding of Infrastructure/Telecom.
• Own and manage the systems administration.
• Responsible for Loop Tuning.
• Manage Automation Projects.
• Responsible for Alarm Management.

Data Integration - Robust and Reliable Supply of Data; Seamless Integration with Business and Execution Systems.
• Have basic understanding of interfaces and data flow.
• Understand the EBR recipe.
• Implement or deploy process analytics systems and provide ongoing support.
• Understand (or participate in the development) of the Data Integrity Strategy.
• Develop and/or maintain Production & Utilities Reports.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in Computer Systems, Software, Electrical
  • 7-10 years of experience in a similar position, preferably in pharmaceutical or other regulated industry.
  • 1-3 years of experience in dry pharmaceutical operations is highly recommended.
  • Proven experience in programming, configuration, integration, and troubleshooting of automation control systems, instrumentation, networking and data reporting/management systems.
  • Proven experience working with HMI’s, SCADA’s, PLC’s (PLC5, SLC500, ControlLogix) and the following software products; FTView, FTBatch, FTHistorian, Wonderware, iFix, OSI/PI, FTMetrics, Crystal Reports, Discoverant, and Aspen.
  • Computer Systems Validation experience in regulated operations (preferably in GMP operations).
  • Professional License of Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT), preferred
  • Job title and salary commensurate with experience

Additional Preferences:

  • Desirable knowledge in Visual Basics, VBA, and relational database applications including Oracle and MS SQL
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Teamwork oriented with the ability to establish positive interpersonal relationships and interact with people
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Strong compliance mindset, sound judgment, and decision-making
  • Work under minimum supervision
  • Knowledgeable in GMP, GDP, Safety (OSHA)
  • Strong technical writing abilities
  • Able to support a 24/7 operation
