Performance Engineer

Overview:

• Seeking an astute individual that has a strong technical foundation with the additional ability to be hands-on with the broader engineering team as part of the development/deployment cycle, and deep knowledge of industry best practices, with the ability to implement them working with both the platform, and the product teams.

Scope:

• Core responsibilities to include Performance test and Engineering for large applications in Execution products and micro-fulfillment
• The team currently comprises of 30+ global associates across US, India (COE) and UK and is expected to grow rapidly. The incumbent will need to have leadership qualities to also mentor junior and mid-level performance engineers in our team

Our current technical environment:

• Good knowledge and expert on Performance Testing concepts.
• JMeter/Gatling for Performance testing tool.
• Expert on Garbage collection and Thread dumps.
• Unix Shell scripting
• Basic core Java
• DB Query Performance and Test
• UI performance test with Lighthouse or similar tools
• Application Framework : Azure, Kubernetes, Docker

What you’ll do:

• Lead Performance engineering and develop scripts and solutions for existing and new products in Execution portfolio
• Provide early visibility and mitigation to technical challenges through the journey.
• Create performance test plan, test specification, strategy, and approach documents
• Design / reviewing / enhancing the performance test scripts.
• Prepare the performance test reports in regular time intervals while executions are in progress and sending the regular updates to the ops / dev team to monitor / triage the identified app / infrastructure related issues.
• Get the periodical updates on the system health of various components like web / app / DB servers followed by benchmarking and bottleneck identifications

What we are looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree (STEM preferred) and minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in Software development; ideally a candidate that has started as a Test Engineer and progressed to Performance Engineer
• Strong knowledge in Performance test and experience in production Traffic Analysis, designing work load modelling experience and background in Enterprise Java
• Proficient in understanding the system and setting up frameworks to ensure reliable performance results
• Demonstrable experience in Heap dump analysis, Thread dump analysis & JVM tuning etc
• Experience with performance test of ETL pipelines and Event driven architecture using Kafka
• Experience in Database base query performance and tuning for large enterprise application
• Demonstrable experience, thorough knowledge, and interests in Cloud native architecture, Distributed micro-services, Multi-tenant SaaS solution and Cloud Scalability, performance, and High availability
• Experience with DevOps, Infrastructure as Code and infrastructure automation.
• Good Understanding of secure architectures, secure configuration, identity management
• Experienced in Observability and monitoring tools like Grafana -Influx DB AppDynamics etc.
• Analyze application architecture and make recommendations in order to optimize performance.
• Analyzes and optimize components to take advantage of project specific databases and system configurations.
• Assist other team members with benchmarking and sizing exercises.
• Complete all necessary administration duties in a timely and accurate fashion. E.g. JTRAX Time & Expense, trip reports etc.
• Execute and maintain BY methodology-where applicable.
• Flexibility to work with various product development teams globally in their time zone if needed.
• Maintain direct communication between the project manager, project team and other BY associates as required.
• Provide technical expertise during the project, including performance tuning, DB design, installation, stress/load testing and interface development work.
• Provide technical expertise on development projects as necessary.
• Understand technical needs and develop solutions to meet those needs
