Location Designer

For more than 35 years, Bardel Entertainment has led the animation industry through unwavering commitment to quality, creativity, and innovation. We are an internationally recognized, Emmy Award®-winning studio – in two prominent Canadian cities, Vancouver and Montreal – and the creative force behind top audience hits such as The Dragon Prince, Rick and Morty, Teen Titans Go!, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

In preparation for future greenlit projects, we wanted to open this Expression of Interest and connect with talented location designers. As a Designer at Bardel, you will play a vital role in bringing our sets to life. You will work closely with the design team and creative director to conceptualize, design, and develop sets that fit seamlessly into our 3D project.

What you’ll be doing:

• Conceptualize location designs in line and colour.
• Conceptualize and create the overall look, attitude and style of the project.
• Exercise critical thinking.
• Support the Art Director and Senior Designer(s).
• Proactively communicate and collaborate across teams.
• Ensure alignment with project leads for technical and aesthetic goals.
• Meet and maintain project deadlines consistently.

What you’ll bring:

• 2+ years of graphic designing experience on animated production.
• Strong drawing skills and colour fundamentals (illustration, painting, composition, color theory, perspective, 2D design).
• Able to paint render designs that represent 3D visual style.
• A broad range of design abilities in a collaborative environment.
• Photoshop experience required; Shotgrid familiarity a plus.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
• Excellent visual skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to receive creative direction and feedback.
• Be willing to share knowledge and experience with others.
