Senior Engineer - Automotive Dynamic Sealing Systems

Key Responsibilities:

System Design & Development: Lead the design and development of dynamic sealing systems for automotive closures, taking projects from concept through to production readiness.
Design Excellence: Craft detailed and optimized designs at both system and component levels, focusing on enhancing performance, minimizing size and weight, and balancing durability with cost efficiency.
Collaborative Innovation: Partner with internal teams and external suppliers, leveraging creativity and teamwork to seamlessly integrate diverse systems for optimal results.
Cross-functional Coordination: Work with various stakeholders including Vehicle Safety, Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, and Design Studio to deliver high-quality design solutions.
CAE Collaboration: Engage with CAE teams to interpret and apply analysis results, guiding design iterations and improvements.
Manufacturing Integration: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth process flows and high-quality assembly.
Cross-Departmental Interaction: Interface with Manufacturing, Design, Product Development, Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and other departments to manage tool approvals and component modifications.
Testing & Validation: Develop and oversee testing plans, coordinating physical tests to validate design concepts and ensure performance objectives are met.
Benchmarking & Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of design properties, materials, and manufacturing processes through benchmarking to ensure competitiveness.
Supplier Coordination: Manage and communicate with suppliers, coordinating virtual and physical validation testing activities.
Leadership & Negotiation: Provide guidance to team members and negotiate balanced solutions for complex challenges.
Tolerance Specification: Define required tolerances using GD&T principles.
Travel Requirements: Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: Over 5 years of experience in designing dynamic sealing systems for automotive closures, preferably within an OEM or supplier environment.
Integration Skills: Proven success in system-level integration with a strong grasp of Class A surface data.
CAD Proficiency: Expertise in 3D CAD software, preferably CATIA V5/V6 or similar.
Practical Assembly Experience: Hands-on experience with prototype and production assembly, with a willingness to be involved in part assembly.
Technology & Supplier Selection: Experience in selecting technologies, systems, and suppliers.
Task Management: Ability to prioritize and execute tasks efficiently in a high-pressure setting.
Problem-Solving: Detail-oriented with a strong problem-solving mindset, applying engineering principles effectively.
Project Management: Experience with design release engineering, including engineering change management and project management.
Analysis Tools: Proficient in analysis tools such as ANSYS, OptiStruct, MATLAB, ADAMS, etc.
Creative Problem-Solving: Demonstrated excellence and creativity in resolving mechanical design challenges.
Full Lifecycle Development: Experience managing the full lifecycle of product development from concept through prototype to production.
Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to dynamic sealing, including extrusions, moldings, stampings, and coatings.
Education:

Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution or equivalent automotive closures experience.

Salary Range: $100,000-150,000
