How You Will Contribute:

Reporting to the Senior Manager Optical Modem Hardware, as a Hardware Engineer, you will be part of a team of hardware designers working on the design and development of Ciena’s flagship optical modem products.

  • You will co-develop the hardware design of circuit packs including the detailed design and schematic capture of high-speed optical, digital, processor, analog and power circuits.
  • You will be responsible for analyzing and selecting design alternatives based on cost, power, space and functional requirements. You will be part of evaluating and designing in early versions of custom & leading-edge electronic and optical components not yet available to general market.
  • You will oversee the CAD implementation of the associated PCB and lead the creation of functional specifications, test plans and reports.
  • You will participate in multidisciplinary meetings to coordinate the efforts of Signal Integrity, Mechanical, Thermal, Component, Optical, Test teams and other stakeholders throughout the development from initial prototype hardware to volume manufacturing.
  • You will conduct thorough validation of designs and interfaces against component and commercial requirements and submit design into the corporate database during prototype and production stages.
  • You will chair design deliverable meetings to ensure multidisciplinary objectives and architectural needs are met in accordance with ISO requirements and participate in process change and improvement forums.
  • You will play a key role in supporting internal customers and prototype inventory during the development phase and external customers (and manufacturing) after product deployment.

The Must Haves:

  • Degree in Electrical, Optical, Computer or Engineering Physics or equivalent. Operate at equivalent of an engineer with 5 plus years of relevant experience

Assets:

  • Proven experience in hardware design implementing circuit packs, preferably for the Telecom industry.
  • Detailed design experience with circuit designs involving communication processors, ASICs, FPGA, memories and electro-optics
  • Knowledge of precision analog design involving discrete and op-amps, including development and verification of noise, precision and stability budgets
  • Expertise in board level simulation and circuit simulation methodology: SPICE, Cadence, Hyperlynx, ADS etc.
  • Knowledge of high-speed SERDES design and transmission line theory.
  • Experience with designs that employ bare-dies and background in different microelectronic assembly techniques (wire bonding, flip chipping)
  • Demonstrated use of schematic capture and layout tools such as the Cadence Allegro tool suite.
  • Experience with optical or electrical lab characterization techniques and test equipment from DC to 100's GHz.

The annual pay range for this position is $77,500-$164,500

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
