Civil Engineering Intern

The Transportation Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Civil Engineering Intern for employment during Spring/Summer 2025 in the Novi, Michigan office.

This position provides the opportunity to work on large, unique, and complex transportation projects throughout Michigan.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Work with field inspection teams for oversight of transportation construction projects.
• Monitor and record the work and progress of contractors while tracking material quality and usage.
• Ensure that traffic control measures are implemented and maintained during construction.
• Perform field reviews and take field measurements.
• Perform assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
• Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
• Prepare engineering-related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
• Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
• Meet required schedules while producing quality work.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

• Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in civil or industrial engineering or construction management.
• Must have completed one year of study.
• Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
• As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS)
• Seniors in College are preferred.
