Position Summary

The Vegetation Managment Distribution Senior Engineer serves as the VM reliability expert for Distribution in order to lead analysis, creation and tracking of vegetation reliability improvement initiatives. Improvement in vegetated related reliability performance metrics (SAIDI, SAIFI, CAIDI) is essential to Distirbution's strategy for improving system reliability performance. This position is dedicated to the detailed analysis of vegetation reliability performance data for each jurisdiction as input to develop data-driven strategies to optimize jurisdictional approaches to improve long term reliability performance. This position applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied. The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.

Responsibilities

  • Performs detailed analytical review of historical vegetation reliability performance (SAIDI, SAIFI, CAIDI, CEMI) to determine trends and opportunities for improvements customized by jurisdiction.
  • Analyze trends to validate and/or recommend changes in strategies, specifications, impacts of SCADA technology installed on the distribution system and the utilization of remote sensing technology.
  • Serves as VM Subject Matter Expert for technical expertise related to jurisdictional reliability questions and provides technical perspective on the impacts of VM to reliability at a corporate or industry level in their field of expertise.
  • Participate in Outage Follow-Up (OFU) calls as needed with a focus on vegetation related outages that meet the outage follow-up criteria of Vegetation related outages >= 500 customers interrupted or Vegetation CEMI 4 outages.
  • Review vegetation specific outage details and clean up coding as appropriate and perform cross jurisdictional comparisons to identify best practices and areas of opportunities
  • Work closely with the Cross Functional Data Analytics organization to apply data analytics as part of developing annual trim plans with a long-term vision of reliability improvement
  • Develop vegetation reliability performance trend analysis and forecast improvements
  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
  • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally

Required/Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • 6 years related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • In addition to desired degree, 5 years related work experience
  • Professional Engineer

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in engineering theories and principles
  • Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations,
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in principles of project management
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Specific Requirements
  • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
