Recognizes that a developer's success lies in the understanding of core processes of the business unit and its requirements, also aligning with the architecture patterns and technology strategy. Drives the overall software development lifecycle including working across functional teams to transform requirements into features, managing development teams and processes and conducting software testing and maintenance. Applies deep knowledge of algorithms, data structures and programming languages to develop high quality technology applications and services - including tools, standards, and relevant software platforms based on business requirements

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conceive and write detailed software implementations/code while ensuring that their code/configurations adhere to the security, logging, error handling, and performance standards and non-functional requirements.
  • Writes, configures and integrates code to create the software that aligns with requirements, architecture patterns and technology standards
  • Decomposes business requirements and translates them into detailed design specifications and code.
  • Design, Develop, test and maintain Mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2 and CICS
  • Assesses impact of design decisions to the computer solution/product/service being developed (i.e. performance, schedule, budget, downstream component/system impact, quality, etc.) and recommends alternate/creative solutions for mitigation/optimization if required.
  • Analyze and Optimize mainframe systems, monitor, track and enhance performance and addresses any issues (maintenance).
  • Supports production issues, includes independently completing root-cause analysis and diagnosis.
  • Understands the implications of various components (including technology strategy & architecture) to the overall design of a program, system, or eco-system
  • Understands BMO Mainframe environment and strategic goals and is an advocate for our mainframe technologies.
  • Leads/conducts detailed code-reviews and provides feedback in a constructive manner.
  • Designs solutions, writes code, performs unit testing, develops appropriate artefacts / documentation, and facilitates final delivery.
  • Devises new algorithms and data structures for target environment and platform attributes in alignment with architectural patterns.
  • Recommends or automates approaches to streamline and integrate technological processes and/or systems to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Supports the management of specific project deliverables & outcomes.
  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
  • Perform Unit, Integration and regression testing to verify the functionality as per the project requirements or functionality of the mainframe system

Qualifications:

  • Have 8+ years of experience with IBM mainframe technologies such as; z/OS, CICS, COBOL, TSO, DB2, VSAM, JCL, z/OS Connect, etc
  • Experience in mainframe testing preferrable
  • Knowledge or related experience working in a mainframe development or production environment supporting retail, lending, credit, or investment applications.
  • Knowledge of software development practices, concepts, and technology obtained through formal training and/or work experience.
  • Knowledge of required programming languages and can code
  • Knowledge of technical/business environment and processes.
  • Knowledge of creating documentations using JIRA and Confluence
  • Ability to understand testing requirement, prepare test plan, write and execute test cases
  • Understand functional aspects and technical behavior of the underlying operating system, development environment, and deployment practices.
  • Have facility with and understanding of the ecosystem that code operates in.
  • Good Verbal & written communication skills
  • Good collaboration & team skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills - In-depth.

Salary :

$79,800.00 - $148,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
