Brightspeed is looking for a Lead Operations Engineer to join our Network Operations SS7 Tier III Engineering team!

As a Lead Operations Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

Assuming ownership and accountability in areas of recognized technical expertise providing technical, leadership, guidance, and assistance across different segments. The Lead Operations Engineer will act as the subject matter expert for all things SS7 for Network Operations, Service Assurance, Central Office and Field Technicians offering real-time technical knowledge transfer as well as training and escalation support.

Principal work includes high-level trouble identification and resolution for unique, complex, or chronic type network problems, i.e. hardware, software, design, or provisioning in the Brightspeed SS7 network. This position proactively takes the technical lead on significant outages, technical issues or concerns, effectively identifying and resolving problems related to service assurance, network reliability, and customer satisfaction.

Develops, reviews, and issues documentation, such as Methods of Procedures (MOP), Technical Job Aids, Vendor Manuals, Standard Configurations, and so forth using tools such as SharePoint, Teams, and the Microsoft Office suite of applications. Communicate frequently with Vendors, Internal Brightspeed workgroups and Local and Interexchange Carriers

As new technologies are introduced, this position will provide course feedback and guidance for training targeted for NOC technicians and other Brightspeed workgroups as needed.

Must be able to support Network Operations and its 24/7 365-day environment

Requirements

What It Takes to Catch Our Eye:

  • 8+ years’ experience in a SS7 Engineering or Tier III/IV Network Operations environment.
  • Subject matter expert on Oracle / Tekelec Eagle STPs, and Ericsson SCPs hardware and configuration. Knowledge of Eagle software loads 42 and newer.
  • Extensive knowledge of troubleshooting low speed link issues at the DS0 and DS1 level.
  • High level of expertise with channel banks, DSU, CSU, OCU and DS0DP.
  • Knowledge of LSMS & LNP
  • SS7 routing and messaging including ISUP, CNAM & LIDB.
  • Experience with rehoming links & collapsing STPs.
  • Strong communication, leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills with a proven track record of working in a dynamic team environment with ever changing requirements and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with remotely mentoring/training/coaching NOC or Field Service employees.
  • Ability to solve complex challenges, independently analyze information, and make recommendations based on analysis.

Bonus Points For:

  • SIGTRAN experience.
  • Familiarity or knowledge of Oracle OCPIC.
  • Circuit Emulation for SS7.
  • Scripting or Automation of triage for SS7 alarms.
  • NMA / RFM experience.
  • Experience working in DMS 100/10, DCO, GTD5, EWSD and 5ESS switches.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Networking or Computer Programming
