Product management

David Weekley Homes is seeking an experienced Business Systems Analyst to function as a Product Owner on our Application Development team. This position is based at our Houston headquarters located in West Houston near the intersection of I-10 Katy Freeway and 610 W Loop N Freeway.

We are looking for experienced analysts and product owners who want to share their knowledge and learn new skills in a fun, intense, and challenging environment. Qualified candidates will have the ability to learn and apply new methodologies.

If you understand the significance of the number 42; if you’ve ever dreamed of traveling in a blue British police box; if you are afraid of Winter coming; if more of your friends call you by your gamertag than your given name – there is a good chance you are a good fit for our team.

The Position-- You will be required to:

  • Work within the development team to create, implement, and enhance internal systems and ensure high quality solutions for the business.
  • Facilitate and participate in daily scrum, sprint review and planning, scrum of scrums meeting, and other as-needed face-to-face, audio- and video-teleconferencing sessions with geographically dispersed teams.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with stakeholders (customers, internal IT teams and executives) to understand customer and business needs.
  • Integrate the perspectives of the stakeholders to effectively describe and prioritize requirements and focus the development efforts on providing value.
  • Review and evaluate systems to ensure adherence to company business rules and customer quality standards.
  • Communicate project updates to Team Members at all levels of the company.
  • Anticipate risks to the project’s success and escalate accordingly.
  • Influence the activities of functional team members, ensuring they are working effectively to deliver results and resolving issues as needed.

The Candidate: We are looking for:

  • A super talented individual, in a general way. On any given day, you may be researching a business process, writing user stories, creating a potential solution to address a business challenge, meeting with customers, testing a program change with developers or mining some data.
  • Agile Product Ownership skills. You understand how to maximize the value of a product and the development team.
  • Project management skills. You understand action planning, accountability, cost/benefit analysis, process models with facilitation and training in multiple learning styles.
  • Software development cycle knowledge. You understand and have experience with Agile Methodology, Scrum framework.
  • An effective communicator. You believe you learn more by listening than talking. You can effectively communicate verbally and in written form including formal presentations to developers, non-technical peers and executives.
  • A good fit with our team. We need someone the team can trust, rely on, bounce ideas off of, and generally interact with in a positive way both personally and professionally.
  • An incredibly hard worker. You reliably see tasks through to the end, without supervision, and ask for more. You know when to ask for help and you give bad news early.

Requirements

The Technical-- You need to have or know:

  • The capability to communicate effectively with developers, customers and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience in Agile/Scrum methodology, process improvement and value-stream mapping, especially the Scrum Product Owner role.
  • Experience with conveying business value through well-written user stories and clear acceptance criteria.
  • The ability to solve complex problems, communicate clearly, and share a sense of urgency.
  • Experience using analytical skills, tools and techniques to investigate issues or interpret data.
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented and proactive in order to meet project deadlines.
  • The capacity to thrive in a small, flexible and dynamic environment, contributing to a high performance, driven corporate culture.
  • Software testing and bug tracking skills

It would be nice for you to have or know:

  • ScrumMaster role
  • SQL skills
  • Kanban methodology
  • Experience working with geographically dispersed teams
