We are seeking an experienced SQL Server DBA with expertise in query optimization, database
efficiency, and AWS RDS for SQL Server. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in
Microsoft SQL Server, performance tuning, and cloud-based database management. You will be
responsible for optimizing queries, designing efficient database structures, and ensuring the
performance, security, and availability of SQL Server databases hosted both on-premise and in
AWS RDS.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
ā Optimize SQL Queries: Analyze, review, and refactor existing SQL queries for improved
performance on both on-premise and AWS RDS-hosted SQL Servers.
ā Database Maintenance: Monitor, maintain, and tune SQL Server databases, ensuring
high performance and availability in both on-premise and AWS RDS environments.
ā AWS RDS Management: Configure, manage, and optimize SQL Server databases
hosted on AWS RDS, including backups, security, scaling, and monitoring.
ā Index Management: Design, implement, and maintain indexing strategies to ensure
efficient query execution.
ā Performance Tuning: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks using SQL Profiler,
Performance Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, and other monitoring tools.
ā Database Design: Collaborate with development teams to design efficient, scalable
database structures that meet business needs.
ā Backup and Recovery: Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies for both
on-premise SQL Server databases and AWS RDS instances.
ā Security Management: Ensure the security of databases, with a focus on AWS IAM
roles, encryption, and security best practices for cloud environments.
ā Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of database configurations,
optimizations, and AWS RDS configurations.

Qualifications:
ā Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA, with a focus on
performance tuning and query optimization, including 2+ years of experience managing
SQL Server databases on AWS RDS.
ā Technical Skills:
ā Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (versions 2016 and above).
ā Strong proficiency in T-SQL programming, query tuning, and stored procedures.
ā Experience with database indexing, partitioning, and normalization.
ā Familiarity with SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and Query Store.
ā Knowledge of AWS RDS for SQL Server, including setup, configuration, and
optimization.
ā Experience with AWS services like CloudWatch, IAM, S3, and EC2 in relation to
database management.
ā Expertise in replication, high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and
clustering strategies.
ā Experience with database design, data modeling, and cloud-based scaling
strategies.
ā Tools: Familiarity with AWS management tools, SSMS, Visual Studio, and third-party
monitoring tools.
ā Performance Tuning: Proven ability to troubleshoot performance issues on both
on-premise and AWS RDS databases.
ā Collaboration: Strong communication skills, with the ability to work closely with
development and IT teams.
ā Certifications: AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, AWS
Solutions Architect) and Microsoft SQL Server certifications (e.g., MCSE: Data
Management and Analytics) are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
ā Knowledge of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and automated database
deployments in AWS environments.
ā Experience with hybrid database architectures (on-premise and cloud-based).
ā Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and AWS CLI for automation tasks.
ā Experience working with other AWS databases, such as Aurora or DynamoDB.
