For this internship position, we are seeking a highly skilled, motivated and creative intern to join our innovative research team at Roche.

The Lead Discovery (LD) department in Pharma Research and Early Development initiates and supports Small Molecule research projects by identifying chemical starting points and by providing key data and insights for their successful optimization in Medicinal Chemistry. We are a tightly knit community of many and diverse talents, closely collaborating with our therapeutic areas and other functions. We are seeking a committed and seasoned intern to strengthen the cell engineering group.

The opportunity

In a highly cross-functional and collaborative environment, the successful candidate will support the development and validation of a novel inducible gene expression system in combination with state-of-the-art CRISPR-Cas9-based system in mammalian cell lines.

  • Design and engineer an inducible expression system for CRISPR-Cas9 systems
  • Create and maintain stable cell lines to express and test the inducible CRISPR-Cas9 system
  • Conduct proof-of-concept studies on pre-selected candidate genes.
  • Perform gene modulation to screen for phenotypic changes rescue
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align project goals**.**

**Who you are

We are looking for a student with a BSc or MSc degree (Degree obtained within the last 12 months) in biology or a related field. In addition, you bring:

  • Hands-on experience with a variety of cellular and molecular biology techniques and cellular assays, including cell culture, flow cytometry, qPCR, and transfection (both stable and transient).
  • Familiarity with gene editing and cell line engineering technologies.
  • Experience in inducible gene expression systems, synthetic biology, and gene therapy-based approaches is beneficial.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and contribute to an environment that encourages sharing ideas, know-how, and best practices.
  • An attitude for continuous learning. You are a creative and proactive solution seeker who has a sense of urgency to drive projects forward
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to engage with a wide range of audiences, including within a lab setting, with the scientific community, and with project teams. You can adapt your communication style to meet the needs of different audiences.
  • Good knowledge in English is a must
