Fire Protection Engineer

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer who will be a Winter 2024 or Spring 2025 graduate with a Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering. The successful candidate will have a desire to work, grow, and have fun with a multi-discipline engineering team. The successful individual will have a passion for protecting lives from fire risks in the built environment. The ideal candidate will have a fire protection engineering degree, however, an engineering degree in other fields (mechanical, architectural, civil, etc.) with a demonstrated interest in fire protection will also be considered.

This position will support the team in providing our clients with: fire and life safety code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant rated construction analysis; automatic suppression system design and analysis; fire detection, alarm and communication system design and analysis; site inspections and witness of life safety system testing; fire hazard analysis; performance-based design; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts.

The Anchorage Fire Protection Engineering department collectively has 60+ years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering across our department of four, all of whom will provide the successful candidate with training, mentorship, and support to help grow your career. Requirements

Requirements Include:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering from accredited college or university. Fire Protection specific degree preferred.
• Experience working in AutoCAD and/or REVIT (preferred).
• General building construction knowledge (preferred).
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including oral presentation skills.
• Ability to work on a highly-motivated team, think outside the box, and be proud of the work you do.

Desired Skills & Duties:

• Possess intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and simple graphics.
• Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations.
• Performing research and document for internal and external distribution.
• Analysis of existing fire protection systems; design new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, fire alarm and mass notification systems.
• Building and fire code analysis and interpretation.
• Utilization of AutoCAD, Revit to prepare fire protection system designs.
• Utilization of FDS, Pyrosim, CONTAM programs to execute performance-based design efforts.
