Job Description

Our corporate data science and data engineering team is looking for an individual experienced in the intersection of advanced analytics and using AI techniques to help solve challenging business problems in the life sciences and/or healthcare industries. This role will have an exceptional opportunity to serve as a project operation lead within the data science team, in addition to exposure to collaborative projects in other parts of the business. This role will work on a highly collaborative, centralized team of data scientists, engineers, and strategists to deliver analytical insights and data products that drive value and impact for Vertex’s highest priority business needs.

The DSS Project Management and Strategic Operations Manager is responsible for department projects and provides centralized operational support for the department. By partnering closely with DSS LT and cross functional project teams, the Manager develops and maintains integrated project plans and operational processes in accordance with project/department objectives and are within budget and timelines. This role is also responsible for managing project workplans, developing comprehensive communications and presentations, including status reporting, risk management, department processes to cross-functional stakeholders as well as department and business Sr. leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Works with teams of data scientists and cross functional business partners to conceptualize and plan deployment of advanced analytics and AI solutions for business questions
  • Drives development of project charters, ensuring clear business need, project objectives and strategic approach is developed at onset of project
  • Participates in discovery interviews, project status meetings and project presentations with business partners
  • Manages project workplan and deliverables throughout project lifecycle, ensuring clear alignment with business partners on deployment strategy and impact measurement plans
  • Understands and transforms business needs and requirements and translates into data strategy; identify new projects
  • Develops communications around the output of analyses, including both written and verbal communication, to business leaders and non-technical audiences and ensure project work outputs are aligned with business need and question
  • Effectively summarizes key information such as project progress, scenario planning, operational deployment plans
  • Create senior leader quality presentations on the application of data science and able to drive presentations with senior leaders
  • Bring an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and ethical mindset to your everyday work
  • Contributes to best practices of project management and departmental operations to support continued success and evolution of department
  • Identifies new data science opportunities based on research, industry trends and best practices, driving data-driven innovation for the biotech intended for patient level impact across diseases
  • Defines and measures key performance indicators to evaluate and understand insight value, product ROI, etc.
  • Develops required technical skills to lead an AI project through internal and external courses

Qualifications

  • MBA preferred, with a background and/or experience in statistics, mathematics, computer science, biology, chemistry, or a related life sciences discipline
  • At least 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in consulting, project and/or product management for life sciences, healthcare or technology field
  • Exposure to and/or experience in projects utilizing data modeling, machine learning, advanced analytics and linking data sets
  • Experience with summarizing data analysis and translating data insights into business impact
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel

Hybrid-Eligible Or On-Site Eligible

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
