Software Engineer I

The Collections team is the front line of gathering threat intelligence from the deep and dark web and open source intelligence sources. The team’s work provides around-the-clock insights from conversations within threat actor channels and illicit online communities. These communications provide insight into a broad spectrum of activity, threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs). Accessing collections data through the Flashpoint Intelligence Platform provides additional insights for security teams to discover and respond to threats promptly, thereby reducing risk to their organizations.

We have a role for you if

• You are an early career software engineer with an interest in web scraping
• You have some prior experience with Python or other object oriented language
• You enjoy working with a close-knit, highly communicative and collaborative team
• You have a humble attitude and persistence to learn
• You have strong analytical and problem solving skills
• You are familiar with basic HTTP concepts

What you will get to do on our team

• Utilize internal web scraping tools to expand our coverage of threat actor communities
• Write code to parse scraped data for delivery to customers
• Navigate messy html, quirky site structures, and a constantly shifting deep and dark web landscape

What you will achieve

• Within 30 days
  • Configure your development environment
  • Become familiar with internal tools for web scraping
  • Write and deploy your first scraper and parser, with guidance
• Within 60 days
  • Independently write and deploy parsers
  • Become familiar with specialized scraping tools and collections architecture
• Within 90 days
  • Be able to determine if a source should be escalated to more complex scraping systems
  • Respond to help requests related to collections
  • Contribute to complex scraping projects

To be successful in this role, you will need

• Interest in web scraping (prior experience is a plus, but not required)
• Experience with Python or similar object oriented language
• Familiarity with git, or willingness to learn

Base pay range: CA$80,000/yr - CA$90,000/yr plus bonus
