Senior Infrastructure Engineer

As a member of our Information Technology team, you'll play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing our IT infrastructure. You will lead the development of scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems that support our scientific applications and business operations. Your expertise will help drive the strategic direction of our infrastructure, ensuring that it meets the evolving needs of our organization.

What you’ll do and learn:

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-availability infrastructure solutions, including data centers, cloud environments, and hybrid systems
• Develop and execute infrastructure strategies that align with Schrödinger’s business goals and scientific objectives
• Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to recommend improvements and innovations
• Architect and optimize complex IT systems to ensure performance, reliability, and security
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate infrastructure solutions with applications and workflows
• Implement and manage automation tools and processes to enhance system efficiency and reduce manual overhead
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers and IT staff
• Lead infrastructure projects in a technical role, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to best practices
• Foster a collaborative environment and drive continuous improvement within the infrastructure team
• Oversee the monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of infrastructure systems
• Develop and enforce policies and procedures for infrastructure management, including backup, disaster recovery, and security protocols
• Manage vendor relationships and service contracts to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness
• Work closely with research scientists, software developers, and other stakeholders to understand their requirements and provide infrastructure solutions that support their work
• Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner

What you’ll need:

• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience in a professional setting)
• At least seven years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering, with a minimum of three years in a lead role
• Proven experience with cloud and on-prem network architecture, virtualization platforms (GCP, AWS, VMware, Azure), data center management, and WAN technologies
• Deep background in virtualization, containerization, and automation tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)
• Expertise in designing and managing large-scale, high-performance infrastructure systems
• In-depth knowledge of IT security principles, practices, and technologies

Estimated base salary range: $140,000 - $205,000. Actual compensation package is dependent on a number of factors, including, for example, experience, education, degrees held, market data, and business needs.
