The Opportunity

QuidelOrtho is seeking a Systems Engineer I to join our R&D Instrument Platforms organization to provide technical responsibility for the realization of enhancements, quality improvements, and obsolescence changes within our portfolio of products. The individual should have an eye for creating custom engineering solutions and be well-versed in each stage of the R&D systems life cycle while driving results within the project constraints of schedule, cost, performance, quality, and reliability objectives under guidance of senior staff.

This position will be onsite at our Rochester, NY office with flexibility (3-4 days onsite).

The Responsibilities

  • Contributes to refinement, translation, allocation to subsystems, and management of stakeholder requirements.
  • Contributes to definition of system interfaces, evaluates systems and makes solution recommendations.
  • Contributes to cross-discipline feasibility and tradeoff studies.
  • Contributes to subsystem-level design and technical reviews.
  • Contributes to defect management, risk management, usability activities.
  • Contributes to system integration (follow up, analysis, problem solving), verification and validation design input.
  • Contributes to the preparation of documentation, including configuration documentation, DHF etc.
  • Investigates and quantifies subsystem sensitivities through latitude testing
  • Perform work in Biohazard Lab environment.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering with up to two years of prior relevant experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Systems thinking acuity.
  • Demonstrated ability in technical analysis including evaluation of multiple candidate solutions and significant evaluation of intangibles.
  • Ability to propose methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to realize product functionality.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience with technical writing and English fluency.
  • Ability to triage product issues and perform root cause investigations.
  • Adapt quickly to obstacles and changing demands.
  • Operates through the entire system engineering process model.
  • Ability to think like our customers and have a service-oriented mindset to better anticipate needs, resolve issues more quickly and ultimately create seamless user experiences.
  • Experience with MATLAB.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree
  • Six Sigma background
  • Systems modeling background
  • Demonstrated experience in physics, mathematics, algorithms, optics, fluid dynamics.
  • Background in applied statistics

Internal Partners: Works closely with Systems Engineers, Hardware Engineers, Quality/Regulatory, Operations, Marketing, Manufacturing, Service, Valuemetric, Clinical Medical Affairs, Project Management Office

External Partners: c development partners, Customers, Manufacturing

The Working Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of an office, manufacturing, and laboratory environment. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines.

Physical Demands

Typically, 40% of time in meetings; 60% of time at the desk on computer/doing paperwork/ on phone, doing analytical work. Walking, standing, and sitting for long periods of time are routine to accomplish tasks in this role. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $80,000. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
