As an Engineer, Research and Development, you’ll join a dynamic team of innovators dedicated to creating exceptional products. You will collaborate with colleagues across engineering, marketing, and manufacturing to design solutions that meet evolving industry needs. Your role will allow you to use your broad skillset to create innovative, high-quality products that impact the industry, all while contributing to a supportive, growth-oriented team culture.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (% of Time)

Innovative Engineering Solutions (60%)
Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product managers, marketing, and manufacturing—to drive industry-leading innovations. You will play a key role in conceptualizing, designing, and developing groundbreaking structural solutions that set new benchmarks in performance, safety, and usability. Your ability to translate evolving market trends, customer needs, and industry advancements into innovative product designs will help keep Simpson Strong-Tie at the forefront of the industry.

Data-Driven Testing & Optimization (30%)
Leverage our state-of-the-art testing facilities to design experiments that push the boundaries of engineering. You'll have the freedom to test, break, and explore product performance in an engaging environment that promotes learning and discovery. By analyzing results, you'll gain deep insights into product behaviors and engineering principles that shape not only our designs but also the future of the industry.

Collaborative Problem-Solving & Support (10%)
Be part of a collaborative environment where your ideas matter. You’ll work closely with diverse teams—across engineering, marketing, and manufacturing—to tackle unique challenges and craft innovative solutions. Your technical expertise will help shape products that influence the industry. In this role, you’ll be empowered to share your insights and play a crucial part in solving complex problems while driving continuous improvement in everything we do.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

If you can do everything listed above, you’ve got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical, Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering required.
  • Licensed Civil or Structural Engineer (P.E. or S.E.) preferred.
  • Knowledge: Practical working knowledge of common timber, concrete and steel construction methods. Familiarity with Simpson Strong-Tie products is a plus.
  • Adaptability & Versatility: You thrive in dynamic environments and are comfortable applying your engineering skills to a wide range of challenges and products.
  • Creative Problem-Solving: You approach complex challenges with curiosity and a solution-oriented mindset, finding innovative ways to tackle problems.
  • Collaboration & Communication: You work well with diverse teams, communicate clearly, and build strong relationships to drive projects forward.
  • Continuous Learning: You stay engaged with industry trends and are committed to expanding your knowledge to drive innovation and improvement.
  • Project Management: You manage multiple priorities efficiently, ensuring high-quality results while meeting deadlines.
  • Technical Skills: You bring strong engineering fundamentals and can quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printer/scanner, etc. are frequently used.

TRAVEL

This position requires domestic and international travel up to 10% of the time.

WORK STATUS & LOCATION

This full-time, exempt position is located in Pleasanton, CA.

RELOCATION

Relocation is not available for this position.

Pay

$85,880 - $111,500 / year
