Fuse is on a mission to accelerate the world’s transition to fusion energy. Our core product is TITAN: an Impedance Matched Marx Generator (IMG). TITAN is the most efficient and powerful (TW) machine of its kind. Fusers have built and licensed Magical Unicorn and FAETON I, 2 novel pulsed power generators.

You are joining an early-stage fusion company. Please expect to wear different hats and take 0 to 1 ownership of objectives. Changing the world is hard but honorable and fulfilling. You should expect to work extremely hard to make a dent. This is not a regular job. Fusers are on a mission to change the world and get shit done.

As a diagnostics specialist at Fuse, you’ll work on the development and implementation of diagnostic tools for High Energy Density Physics (HEDP) experiments. You are going to be part of a dynamic and collaborative team of scientists and engineers building at the cutting edge of high-energy-density physics (HEDP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize diagnostic systems for HEDP experiments;
  • Install and ensure the functioning of diagnostic equipment during experiments;
  • Analyze experimental data and provide insights to the team;
  • Collaborate with computational scientists to compare and validate simulation results with experimental data;
  • Write scientific papers and reports for external publication; including potentially peer-reviewed journals;
  • Present research findings to external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience;
  • 3+ years’ of experimental physics, particularly in the areas of high-energy-density physics (HEDP) and plasma diagnostics;
  • 3+ years’ experience with designing, building, and operating diagnostic systems, including data acquisition and analysis;
  • Working knowledge of UV and X-ray diagnostic techniques such as interferometry, spectroscopy, and imaging as well as diagnostic tools such as streak cameras, framing cameras, and x-ray detectors;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Ability and willingness for bi-coastal travel.

Additional requirements

  • Must be able to travel and work extended hours/weekends as needed.
