This role involves being a Design Engineer on one or more Workstreams in the Plant Cyber Integration & Obsolescence Project portfolio. Although the individual projects within the portfolio are being delivered to the SL PES standards, it should be noted that the systems themselves are formed from COTS IT equipment, and so a good understanding of this technology will also be required for the role(s).

The individual will be responsible for supporting the Lead Engineer(s) in all aspects of delivery across numerous projects from concept to handover. They will functionally report to a Lead Engineer for the projects (this could be different people from project to project).

The role will require the individual to deliver the project deliverables in line with SL tailored processes.

This role will require stakeholder engagement with security case managers, system engineers, OTG, commissioning staff etc throughout the lifecycle but especially during the stakeholder requirements definition process and requirements analysis process.

As a key role within the Integrated Project Team (IPT) the individual will work closely with other disciplines, including Project Management, Quality, Cost Controls, Team Members in other Workstreams and Projects, Systems Engineers, Capability (especially The Security in Design CoE) and OTG.

The role also covers engagement with the supply chain, delivery of the systems including checking and reviewing deliverables from internal and external sources, verification and validation, quality management.

The individual will also contribute to reporting requirements including ensuring any technical, safety and engineering risks are identified and escalated to the Lead Engineer(s).

Examples of Typical projects are:

  • Provision of a Patching System to provide software patches to the Cyber Security suite of systems:
  • Provision of a Network Time Protocol (NTP) system to deliver accurate time to the Cyber Security suite of systems and facilities;
  • Delivery of a Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) system for monitoring Cyber Security information.
  • Network Hardening Project
  • Protective Monitoring Project

Requirements

Essential

  • Must have experience in working with requirements capture and delivery.
  • Familiar with industrial cyber security practices i.e., BS 62443.
  • Familiar with the V-Model processes and deliverables for systems delivery.
  • Able to undertake site visits to perform walk-downs confirming routes & locations etc.
  • Experience of PES deliverables in all phases of the PES project delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience of working with the supply chain.
  • At least 3 years working in roles where knowledge of systems / PES design lifecycle delivery was a key attribute.
  • At least 1 years experience of working within a highly regulated and quality assured system (preferably nuclear).

Have the ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team, and individually, working within sometimes restrictive time constraints

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self directing, flexible and work on initiative
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and be able to interact with people at all levels.
  • HNC/HND Qualified in appropriate discipline

Professional registration (minimum Eng Tech) with a relevant institute (e.g. IET,)
