Who You Are:

The Managing Editor role involves spearheading our AMER Sport editing team, overseeing all editing tasks for live sporting content across various editorial events and client projects. This position encompasses a blend of remote and onsite work, including leading event coverage, managing editors, providing constructive feedback, ensuring timely global content distribution, meeting customer expectations, and delivering exceptional results within tight deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting.

The ideal candidate will be instrumental in supporting a collaborative global strategy and sharing responsibility for events on a worldwide scale. They should possess an extensive knowledge of both domestic and international sports, along with proven experience in efficiently and skilfully editing large volumes of content while effectively understanding and meeting client needs. Proficiency in digital photography, transmission, photo editing, metadata management, computer networking, and wireless connectivity across PC and MAC platforms is crucial for success in this role.

Travel is an integral aspect of this position, with events primarily scheduled during evenings and weekends. Despite its demanding nature, this role offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and globally impactful editorial operation.

Your Next Challenge:

Content Editing and Distribution:

• Edits editorial and commercial content remotely, in-office, and onsite at sports events for global distribution to our website or directly to clients. Responsibilities encompass a diverse skill set including proficiency in JPEG and RAW workflows, photo editing software, data management, metadata application, and FTP management for uploading imagery to multiple clients and websites.

Team Leadership and Management:

• Leads and manages the editing team's schedule, incorporating onsite workflows.

• Organizes and updates weekly assignments, effectively communicating with the team.

Manages cost tracking and budget projections and handles administrative duties such as logging, tracking, and reporting.

Event Coverage Management:

• Coordinates event coverage by arranging event details and instructions from internal partners. Carries out tasks independently, collaboratively, or in a leadership capacity.

• Guides and communicates with onsite teams, comprising editors, photographers, and freelancers, as necessary. Identifies the optimal workflow according to event scale to achieve deadline objectives efficiently.

Training and Mentorship:

• Trains and mentors freelance editors in accordance with Getty Images standards for image transmission, quality, captioning, and sending.

• Provides constructive feedback on editing and workflow processes, offering valuable improvement suggestions to leadership.

Client Relationship Management:

• Develops strong relationships with internal and external clients, delivering insightful and thorough customer service for both client and editorial assignments.

• Curates Sporting content as "featured edits" for marketing purposes to internal and external clients regularly or as required.

Performance Management:

• Conducts performance reviews, offers feedback, and provides coaching for managed staff.

• Fosters a collaborative team environment built on respect, open communication, and a positive work culture, where every team member feels valued and supported.

What You'll Need:

  • Demonstrates excellent editing skills, proficiency in RAW workflows, and data management.
  • Exhibits strong content curation abilities, coupled with a profound understanding of sporting history, adept storytelling, and keen awareness of current events.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
  • Exhibits excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Manages time effectively, with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • The ability to travel, domestically and internationally, at times. This includes a valid passport.

What You Can Expect (Mental and Physical Demands):

  • Frequent communication with others to exchange information
  • Frequent sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing; Time of each will vary.
  • Constant operation of computer and frequent usage of other office machinery, including (but not limited to) calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.
  • Constant assessment of accuracy and thoroughness of the work assignment.

$76,000 - $101,000 a year

The starting salary range for this position at the time of posting is USD $76,000 to USD $101,000 per annum. Getty Images has different ranges in different locations within the US, and this range represents the starting base pay range. Actual compensation will depend on factors including but not limited to: qualifications, geographic location, skills, experience, certification, business needs, performance, and level of responsibility along with the requirements of the position.
