Job Description:
The Electrical Specialist Engineerโs main function would be to ensure that the power Systems in the Waste to energy business line are operated and maintained in a stable and safe way with the local teams. The role will include but is not limited to;
โ Providing technical advice to the management and operations team(s).
โ Liaising with vendors, operations and maintenance teams in the planning of power system maintenance.
โ High voltage maintenance shutdown planning, including isolation planning,
โ Coordinating high voltage maintenance.
โ Updating maintenance procedures, and preparing new procedures as required.
The generator fleet comprises of:
โ Two GE 11kV steam turbo-generators
โ One 11kv emergency diesel generator,
โ One Triveni steam turbo-generator, and,
โ Three MWM CHP generators.
This role requires knowledge of complex control and protection schemes which will need to be maintained and operated by a suitably qualified and experienced candidate.
The engineer will need to be deeply involved in the maintenance of power system assets; Switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, station battery chargers etc.
The position would suit an experienced engineer with strong experience in power systems or a protection engineer with at least 5+ (preferably 10) years of experience with high voltage systems including high voltage power generation.
Requirements
Essential Experience and Skills:
Demonstrated experience in high voltage system maintenance, equipment operation and troubleshooting. This must include strong knowledge of circuit breakers, transformers, generators and switchgear.
Demonstrated experience writing switching programs for high voltage operators, checking and approving isolation plans for maintenance activities.
Must have hands-on experience performing High Voltage switching, Wearing an arc-flash suit and performing switching such as isolation, issuing permits, and, re-energisation after maintenance.
The applicant must be experienced in analysing single line diagrams and electrical schematics during troubleshooting and maintenance.
- โ Strong communications skills, both verbal and written. Must be fluent in English to read and understand existing design documentation.
โ Demonstrated strong focus on safety
โ Must have a solid understanding of power station operation.
โ Hands on experience with technical support for power system faults and trips.
โ Leadership skills are essential; Must be able lead and coach an existing team of technicians / engineers.
โ Be able to lead calmly while working under pressure i.e. after equipment trips.
โ Experience providing after-hours technical support for power systems fault investigation and restoration.
The ideal candidate would be comfortable working โhands onโ and have completed an apprenticeship and an electrical engineering degree.
