Your responsibilities

The ATLAS Pixel Detector is part of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, providing the tracking of charged particles arising from proton-proton collisions. Maintaining the optimal performance of the Pixel Detector is vital for the physics analysis program of the ATLAS experiment.

The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role in Inner Detector Pixel Operations and Data Acquisition to ensure the Pixel Detector continues to operate with maximum efficiency. The person will be required to learn the Pixel DAQ software and infrastructure quickly, as well as operational requirements and procedures. We are looking for a candidate with software affinity and an interest in software architecture. The candidate should have experience with online systems and have demonstrated programming and software management skills (including C++, gitlab). Experience of working with particle detectors for particle physics experiments is an advantage.

He or she will be expected to work closely with colleagues in the ATLAS Pixel Collaboration, to supervise students or qualification tasks in this area, and be willing to work outside normal working hours where necessary for ATLAS data taking (including possibly nights and weekends). He or she should be willing to take on call duties.
