The Product Owner (PO) at Fourth is an integral member of the scrum team within the Technology division and is expected to perform as such in all aspects of team success. The PO is accountable for delivering a unified customer view into Engineering through provision of visible, well-articulated, detailed and prioritized backlogs of user stories into the scrum delivery teams.

The Product Owner is expected to take inputs from all sources, map out what this means for the product, decompose it into small chunks of work, prioritize it based on value, and funnel it into the development team. Sources can include the Product Roadmaps as defined by the Product Managers, directly from customers, ideas logs, our customer-facing teams (Support, Knowledge, Projects), our technology teams (Architecture, UX, Infrastructure), and their ideas and understanding of the products/domain. They manage the expectations of these stakeholders based on what the scrum team can commit to and deliver.

The Role. . .

  • Creation and grooming of the product backlog, ensuring that it delivers the product strategy
  • Collaborate with other Product Owners to identify dependencies and constraints and align contents of sprint to resolve these
  • Gathering and reviewing data on Product Performance and usage analytics to make informed decisions regarding existing and future functionality
  • Attend all scrum ceremonies (release planning, sprint planning, stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives)
  • Negotiate contents of the sprint with the scrum development team based on the size and capacity of the team
  • Facilitate and contribute to the cross-functional “Product Decision Team”, managing decision making across the stakeholder community and using this in Product Backlog grooming and refinement
  • Facilitate and participate in rollout’s and trials of new functionality to Customers
  • Answering questions and assisting on resolving Product Issues, Customer/Sales queries and making priority calls
  • Review and accept user stories into the baseline as they are completed during the sprint, ensuring they deliver the business value intended. Doing this as early as possible in the sprint allows the team time to fix issues and achieve their sprint goals.

The Ideal Candidate. . .

  • 1 Year of Experience as a Product Owner in a SaaS environment
  • Qualified as a Certified Scrum Product Owner
  • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment; ideally with distributed delivery teams
  • Proven experience working as a Product Owner in a delivery environment, preferably within a product development environment
  • Able to understand and articulate complex ideas, making them come to life and relevant to the audience
  • A team player – able to collaborate effectively with colleagues from both the Technology and customer-facing teams, as well as Fourth’s customers
  • A decision maker; able to make fact-based decisions quickly, often based on limited information
