Design

• Oversee creation of scale and full-size interior and exterior clay models for design evaluation by Designers and Engineers following verbal instructions and drawings.

• Sculpt interior and exterior models to the instruction and/or direction of Designers, managers, and Chief Designers.

• Coordinate manpower needs with Design Managers and Designers to allocate manpower to meet project deadlines and budgets.

• Assist with planning timeline and manpower for all Studio clay models and color and trim issues.

• Attend Management meetings and communicate information between upper management, design, engineering and the modeling staff.

• Communicate with Design Managers and Chief Designer to assure modeling needs and expectations are met.

• Consult with Engineering and Management on clay design issues.

• Interact with Marketing, Product Planning, Engineering, the press and other media regarding designs.

• Ensure compliance with Air Quality Management District (AQMD) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements, California OSHA requirements and manage Studio maintenance.

• Assist with inventory tracking, procurement, receiving and stocking of studio materials and tools.

• Assist with crating and shipping of all models.

• Assist with research and acquisition of new equipment and tools for studio.

• Assist in planning fixed asset budget for studio.

• Create and present technical reports as assigned.

• Perform administrative functions such as purchasing requests, timecard, vacation requests, travel requests, etc.

• Perform additional projects as assigned.

• Travel up to 20% oftime domestically and internationally.

• Utilize Digital tools available.

Requirements

Minimum of 10 + years of professional experience in creating clay models for major automotive design studios.

• Expert knowledge and understanding of manual surface development

• Experience 5 years' coordinating work with Design Managers, Senior Engineers, Color and Trim Designers, and Chief Designer to understand design and engineering requirements.

• Expert knowledge of model making techniques, tools, materials and equipment.

• Knowledge of Automotive Industry engineering and manufacturing.

• Able to support 3D printing of parts and machinery

• Know how to operate clay milling machines 5-axis

• Understanding how to scan clay models exterior and interior

• Expert in advanced design programs and managing project timeline and milestones
